Many years ago I was booked on a flight with Syrian Airways from Damascus to London. I turned up at the airport in plenty of time because I was very sick and no doctor i saw locally could diagnose what was wrong with me.

I couldn't find the check in desk, but as i was early I waited for one to open. 45 minutes before the flight the desk still didn't seem to have openned so I finally found someone to ask. I was told that the flight had left. I was somewhat concerned and made this concern known. A woman who worked for the airline told me to go with her. We went into an office then out of another door from the office. This led to a corridor. It was a long corridor and we went to the end and through a door. Suddenly we were on the tarmac. A guy was sitting in a jeep and the woman said something to him in Arabic, then told me to get in the jeep. I hoisted my luggage into the back then he drove me fast across the airport. He pointed at a plane at the end of a line of planes and grinned. We raced to the plane and drove round it.

All the seats were on the tarmac. I looked at the driver with a very quizical expression and he shrugged. He then gunned the jeep across the tarmac again and took me to another plane at the other end of the long line of aircraft. This plane was in Syrian Airways livery and it did have steps up to it. The driver grinned, pointed at it and gave a reassuring smile. I took my luggage off the back of the jeep, walked up the steps and asked a woman passenger if thie plane went to London. She said yes so I put my luggage (a rucsac) in the overhead locker and sat down. At this stage I was feeling exhausted. I definately was not well.

Finally one of the cabin crew came up and sked me what I was doing on the plane. I said I was going to London. He asked if I should be there. The woman next to me said of course I should, otherwise why would I be there. The cabin crew guy shrugged and went away and I flew home. The plane left a few minutes early.

The plane was routed from India to London via Damascus and was full of Hare Krishna devotees.

I hadn't gonr through customs, pssport control, or any security to get on this plane. I imagine that, according to the Syrian civil service, I am still in Syria.

By the time we got to Heathrow I had turned yellow. I had hepatitis, as was pointed out by the person behind me in the queue for passport control.

    Good point we won today!

OFH - They are a bunch of thieving bastards, they try to rip off their customers at every step. I have used them only when there has been no alternative and I have made sure to follow their rules 100%..with all their extras, budget it not a term associated with the thieves

I did think when I posted it might create some reaction w_y. ;)

I think they are high in the list along with bankers, estate agents, etc. of those you love to hate.

What really gets to me is the way that they can charge four times for one credit card transaction if the pair of us use them.

I changed flights with Easyjet next month and they have charged me the new fare plus an admin charge, so it has now cost me double just to move the flights by 48 hours<yikes>

Exactly - with other budget lines, you know what you get, but with Ryan Scare they openly treat their customers with contempt - just a bunch of thieving gypos.

BTW - The BM will be on the menu at Soton..
