Kids and technology! My 16 year-old son has just ruined his third ipod by leaving it in his trouser pocket & allowing my wife to wash it - the same fate as the previous two. He's just bought his fourth mobile phone too - his last one was a BlackBerry which 'somehow got wet' and stopped working.

Luckily for him he has a Saturday job!

All this technology is a massive money maker for all the big corps. My 16 year old spends half her day on BBM etc... <grr>

Morning All, I think that I am awake, but not entirely sure. My eyes didn't want to open today maybe because of tiredness or maybe because they were glued together with a light coating of chip oil.

Another hugely successful event yesterday. There are just over 100 members of the Comite des Fetes, which is not bad from a population of 168 residents. All of us have our jobs that we carry out to make the event run smoothly. Yesterday's was officially described as La Cent-Cinquieme Edition de la Fete Annuelle du 15 Aout. No one is quite certain about the actual number of times such an event has been arranged, but five years back, someone thought after a little research that it would be worthwhile to make a big splash by saying that it was number 100, so we are now counting from that recorded year.

    Morning all

Very grey here with rain threatening but not quite bothering. More visitors arriving shortly...I am thinking of putting a Hotel Theo sign up and taking paying guests. At least Mrs H will keep them entertained while I drive up for the game tonight. Time for a Cup_of_Coffee.jpg I think.

    Afternoon all,
Been a strange few days watching the board but not being able to comment as I have been at work since Friday and the work pc doesn't allow me to post:(. The good lady came back on Friday and I had to have conversations in the evening, a very strange concept not sure if it will catch on<laugh> Back on nights again tonight so I will again be able to view the match thread but not comment:( My good lady went back to Paris yesterday so hopefully I will be on the boards again until the weekend when she returns again. She has already made plans for my Saturday, which involve travelling across Country to Northants to visit family:( Must remember to appear happy, she will never get the Saturday and footie connection<laugh>.

    So tonight COYH!

    Good one Frenchie :)

I had the deshonneur of getting stung on the tongue whilst talking and eating at a dinner last week..... very painful for 24 hours plus... what hurt most was the smile on my daughter's face and the word karma she uttered. ;)

The biggest event of our stay in France this time was the ordering of the sand, cement and gravel for the shed foundations..... two dutchman and an anglais(Moi) order it a the local depot and then discover that we can have ( bags of )ready mix cheaper... so we decide to go for it and arrange delivery for friday..... friday arrives and I surprisingly get a phone call from the delivery merchant saying can he deliver at 1.45 and not 2.30.. wow! ... what service I think and he is coming all the way from Limoges..... we are just cutting wood for shuttering and levelling the ground when we hear the lorry arrive in the farmyard..... lo and behold not bags of ready mix... but ready mixed wet cement on a cement lorry.... oh la la.. a lot of flipping and head scratching.. and then people appear from over the village with wheel barrows and we spend a very hot and humourous hour moving 60 barrow loads of cement....even the driver joins in....

the saga is over we think.... but mais non..... there is just one corner of the foundations to to fill.... and ...we run out of cement....oh la la... and it is friday and Limoges is a long way.... again head scratching and the odd curse.... and then mon dieu.... one of our neighbours just happens to have 5 bags of cement at his house 3k away.... and another just happens to know where there is some gravel abandoned somewhere.... he takes me off in his very ancient 4x4 with a remorque (trailer) and we go up forestry tracks and quagmires and eventually find this pile of gravel about 5k away which is clearly abandonne .. no we are not stealing it mon ami .....we fill up the remorque and start the drive back..... after several minutesof laughing and chatting... my french friend looks in the mirror and oh la la we have lost the remorque.... we drive back a long way and there hanging off the edge of the incline which drops 50 feet to the stream is the remorque .... we have lost a bit of a connector... what can we do.... and again we have the answer.... my friend decides to break off the rear windscreen wiper of his vehicle (this 4 x 4 is seriously old) and use it to tie in the remorque and we drive slowly homewards.... 30 minutes later the foundations are completed one day ahead of schedule......

red wine all round :) Somehow i think this would not happen in the UK

    100% verbatim Leo :)

Then of course there was the delivery of the shed on an artic from Finland.... gets as far as the feeder lane to our hamlet ... only one road in and out.... and it is too big to drive down it.... so the driver offloads his mini fork lift and carries the flatpacked shed 2km down along and up this country lane to our house....
    great stuff :)

    Nice one Yorkie.

    Community works in France.

In the UK the Health & Safety nazis would have closed you down, the truck driver would have said his insurance didn't cover him getting out the cab, the police would have beaten you sensless for driving an knackered car full of stolen gravel and when you got home the rioting chavs would have stolen the foundations and the cat.

great story Yorkie, and i'm sure it wouldn't, but then..i'm pretty surprised it happened in France too! When my parents had a house there, the villagers used to spend a lot of time watching...whenever my dad could have done with some help! lol...you must be in a much more friendly part!
