Just awful. I can't imagine how bad it is, and when he mentioned the road to work a few weeks ago and how he might get stuck on the wrong side of home, that's a frightening thought. All good thoughts to those affected.

I'm very wary of facebook- prefer to hide from Big brother a bit more. I do have my website which I put up to give what I laughingly call my business a web presence. That, this forum and the forum for Sound on Sound magazine is as far as I raise my head over the parapet.

 

Thats probably a good idea. When computers take over you might be one of the few who can fight back as they cant find you or your info lol.

 

The problem with being offline is..when you post, people know you're actually online, then they ask if you want to go onto chat privately, which then means that you have to go online and then everyone knows you're there and wants to chat. It's fine if you only have a few contacts, but if i'm online on FB, i can't keep up, and i hate it, so i'm always offline. Thing is, on FB nobody can be sure if you're there or not, here, it's blatently obvious. And another thing, a lot of people just dip in and out of this site, if they then get caught and start chatting, it's very frustrating...especially if like me, you don't want to be rude. Therefore, it's not good enough for me just to 'appear offline', i'd rather not have it all together. To put it your way, it wouldn't be fair if we got it..especially as 70% of people don't want it. What's the point of having a vote if the majority get ignored?

 

I get the point H, but you will only appear online to the people you have as mates on here, not to everyone. I know it can be annoying on FB cos that is ment for chatting, but here i think we would only use it as a means of a quick message (like we have had). But we know the people who dip in and out and i for one would not be offended if someone would not talk. If you dont want it you dont have to use it, its like chat on FB, but why should the people who want it loose out if you dont want it?

 

but when you have a lot of friends BHD, then they all know you're online if you're talking to one person. If, like on yahoo, you can appear online to only one person, that's a different thing. It's a pain when you can't. And if i were to ignore someone, i'd feel offensive...i'd hate it. And why? Because 70% of the membership of this site don't want it hon....

 

thats fair enough. I would just like it and wonder how many people would have liked it, as about 300 people voted which is a small percentage.

 

When I am out in the fields having a little chat to myself, do others know?

 

i understand hon..it's frustrating for you. And i'm sure you're right, a lot of the no votes are probably people that would be happy just turning it off..but a lot of them will be like me too..anti, not just indifferent...
