As I recall I think Morris dancers are more prevalent in the south whereas the vikings raped and pilaged our northern areas. Maybe the bells scared them off or looking into the distance they thought some fellow vikings had already taken the ground and were happily celebrating running round a big pole drinking gallons of real ale.

If you want to go down the educational route I have found nineteen tenses in English.
Present simple, progressive, perfect, perfect progressive
Past simple, progressive, perfect, perfect progressive
Future simple, progressive, perfect, perfect progressive
Conditional present, present progressive, perfect, perfect progressive
Present subjunctive, to express wishes or doubt
Imperfect subjunctive, to express a hypothesis
Future subjunctive, a phrasal verb using should

Then there is the preterite forms, which are generally past simple forms. The passive is where the subject of the action comes before the verb so you could have “the goal was scored by Danny” instead of “Danny scored the goal”. Then there are modal and phrasal verbs and even verbal nouns.

Zen, are you working for the intelligence services? I seem to recall they have a real thing about that kind of stuff.

Both but the grammar comes first, seem to think one can't decipher meanings if one doesn't have a firm grasp of the language, thus in order to inflict the correct suffering a full understanding of the intelligence and obviously a correct understanding must come first.

    Bonjour tout le monde,

Sun blazing down on the blue Med and the sand is becoming rather hot to walk on with bare feet. The breeze is gentle, just enough to take the heat away if you find a little shade.

The corkscrew has been replaced with a brand new one, but I hold out little hope that it will survive another week of heavy industrial usage. Despite my most pathetic look over a really expensive bottle of wine being ruined, not that expensive actually, no replacement has yet been forthcoming, but I will persevere. :emoticon-0112-wonde

Our walk along the beach this morning could have been enough to finish off the eyesight of someone with wilting lenses. Fortunately my sun glasses are very dark and I don't think I have suffered at all.<cool>

Suddenly did a bottle count of remaining beers. I swear that someone else has found their way to the store. I will have to make a sortie to the large supermarket and get in a much larger quantity this time.

I did a quick scan and discovered that you have been having lessons in grammar. I was feeling quite good this morning having a chat to a lady who understood my French. I understood hers until she started to go too fast. Somehow or other though she guessed my nationality.

Hope to be back plus tard with a small crate of beer by my side.

You don't need to understand a language to confuse your enemy. The US forces in hte Pacific theatre had Navaho wireless operators who would talk to each other in navaho and the Japanese, having no experience of Navaho indians, could make head nor tail of it. I know the wireless operators were defended very heavily in actual combat situations so as to keep the "secret".
