All this talk makes me feel really old - it is one thing wehn teenagers (term not much used any more) do it but when "normal" people go on about i-pods and pads and apps and everything I feel marooned in history :(

My mobile is very little used - we get virtually no signal here. It is so old it does not know the meaning of 3G

As for i-pads, pods etc I have no idea what they are or what they are for - I stick to my trusty PC and laptop - my son used to help when I ran into a problem but he is now at Uni which is no good to me at all :(

I pod is a musical gizmo that can do some computer /phone stuff I pad is like a big smart phone ! Two main smart phone platforms apple and android!
I pad s main rival is android based galaxy tab , although other manufacturers are starting to get in on the act these little tablet pc`s in time will kill off the lap top!
My phone is more powerful than my old laptop!!! Hope this precis modern gadetry is helpful!!!No signal !!! when was the last time you checked out other networks or ISP `s
New services are arriving all the time and I am out in the wop wops as well! You never know there might be ome which covers your area!
over 99.9% of Norway is covered by a phone network and there are far more remote areas here!

I have music on CDs - and vinyl :) - never listened to anything on an i-pod

The only network that gets any signal in the valley here is vodafone - which is the network I use - people visiting have to walk up the hillside to get any signal

PCs - I used to have speed of 10mb or whatever the measure is in Watford but I am lucky now if it reaches above 1 - Wales is VERRRRRY rural

Still use C`ds and cassettes along with Mp3 and mp4 player!
Only got a 1 mb line here too as also very rural , but we are served by 2 mobie networks (and others that piggyback the main 2) which are Netcom and telenor
I have been miles from the nearest house /road where you need a trail bike or atv to get in and out! yet you still get a signal!! My parents are in the middle of nowhere in scotland yet are served by the 3 network ! If you use a wireless router for your laptop you could still use a smartphone using something like skype!I use the net and skype instead of a land line coz its heaps cheaper!!

I just can't hold a conversation here on a mobile - even with vodafone the signal keeps dropping out - I have a land line deal with Sky that gives free calls to other land lines

I can use mobile once I am travelling - it is fine in Carmarthen - just in a blind spot here - my bro near Balmoral rates 3 but I hated and changed - even in Watford the signal was poor

We have simnet which is good and mobile telephones which cover nearly all the country, but is expensive. Landssiminn is just better than Vodaphone. Íslendingur like our electronic toys and many people must have the very newest equipment.

I find myself in the techno vacuum experienced by Leo. I have a UK mobile and a French one. The UK one is expensive, but gives me all the free texts I need, and free phone calls when in the UK. My French one is hardly ever used and is actually very cheap, but then they give a 10% reduction on everything if you are over 60.

I am considering taking a laptop on holiday because I have a map provided by my ISP of all the hotspots. In any case everywhere you go here provides free WiFi coverage. Pronounced WeeFee here. My ISP tells me that I can log in free of charge for up to 2 hours per session. Never tried to take one of them out of the house before, so it will be an experiment if I do take it.

Thats where a Ipad or tablet might be better than a laptop ,much more portable!!
I think what I said to Leo applies to you as well ,you dont do so bad!!:)
I took my works laptop as its a 10 inch small light thing that fitted well in my small Knapsack
but a tablet would have been even easier!

Until a couple of years ago, Jersey had just one mobile operator - Jersey Telecom. Now we've got Airtel Vodafone and Sure (Cable & Wireless).
N & Ak, the JT roaming guide states that I can pick up either of the networks you mention. Frenchie, it's Bouygues, Orange and SFR as the options although I don't think I've ever picked up Bouygues. When I'm over in the UK, it's whichever signal is strongest where I am, which means that I've been on 3 different networks just on the journey from Gatwick to Watford.

Strangly jsybaz if I go down my field I pick up Orange, but go to the nearest town and it is Bouygues. In the hamlet where we live there was no signal for years until a new transmitter was built, and that comes through as F88. I don't know who owns it, but quite often at the end of a month it goes off air. I can only assume that they haven't paid their bill. :(
