While talking to a lady neighbour, our esteemed mayor walked across to the grass bank, unzipped, and let forth without pausing in the conversation.

A fine would have been forthcoming in the UK.

Down in one of the seaside resorts on the Med. I came across a sign on a set of railings in front of a large house, requesting people not to pee through them.

It is quite common to be wished bonjour as you pass someone relieving themselves at the side of the road. Oh, and that is not only men.

I could go into graphic detail of the female version, but Hornette might not like it. ;)

Thank you NZ, but our Dutch neighbours have one here. It is large, a bit like a throne. The waste from that one goes out with the rubbish.

Yes they can be large. The guy I know makes them for the back country walking tracks. He is working on producing a domestic one at the moment.

Evening all - a good evening since L*t*n lost at York <laugh>

Interesting discussion on composting toilets! There's an island on the Great Barrier Reef called North Keppel where the Queensland Government run an environmental camp for schools (a brilliant week-long school camp it must be said). Back in 1990, they installed a composting toilet system which they estimated would be providing a regular source of 'fertiliser' within five years. They underestimated the effectiveness of the system however & the last time I was there in 2004, the tanks were still less than half full - after 14 years of 100 visitors a week/40 weeks a year.

Something to be said for them!

    lol...

Trouble is, these days there's a fair few collections at Vicarage Road. Friends of mine did a big one a year ago and only got £500...i was really surprised...it was for the British Heart Foundation...£500 didn't seem very much at all...
