Grey and misty start to the day here, but forecast of sunshine later. <cool>

Think that various jobs are being lined up for me, so time to go along to the baker and obtain his finest loaf. The traditional long stick doesn't really keep very well for a second day, but the country style one is usable for several meals. Square cotton wool type bread is available amidst the cakes, but is called an American loaf for some reason.

Morning all

Back from a weekend in London...exhibitions at Tate and British Museum, dinner at the Ledbury, a 60th birthday bash and the odd glass here and there.

Lovely sunny morning here for a change so a stroll round the lanes this afternoon might be on.

Only in Reykjavík...

How Not to Rob a Taxi
A taxi driver in Reykjavík has used unconventional means to try to recover un unpaid fare of ISK 5,000 (USD 43, EUR 32). The passenger - a young man - had used the driver’s phone to go on Facebook but forgot to log out so the taxi driver posted a message on his account.

“I was a worthless thief and a liar, the night I fled from the taxi without paying. I was dumb enough to go on Facebook on the taxi driver’s phone and did not log out. Yes, this is the taxi driver. I ask you to pay your debt, before noon on Monday, otherwise I will contact the police. To run from an unpaid taxi bill is the lowest of the low. You wasted an extra 30 minutes on my time, at peak hour, lying that you were taking care of the payment but then disappearing like a chicken,” he wrote.

The passenger replied to the taxi driver, writing: “I am sorry ... I will pay you back what I owe you. I was broke, had no money for the fare.”

Dv.is reports that this is not the first time that the young man runs away from an unpaid taxi bill.

The look of shock/horror you'd get for asking a taxi driver in London if you could borrow their phone to use facebook <yikes>

Vydra subbed at half time. It seems as if he and Chalobah have had a pretty awful first half to the season. Who is to blame? Parent club, agent, or player?

Morning all from Jersey - I have a "breakfast briefing" at 8.30, although for Dave, that's practically lunchtime. :)

SSN are saying that Pellegrini will be resting players for their game at West Ham and is looking to play those who are returning from injury such as Rodwell. If he's resting them for Saturday, we should take that as a back-handed compliment - he's more worried about us than a team in the same division as them!

For those that are interested, Udinese's Coppa Italia match at Milan is live on SS3 tomorrow night - I didn't realise that Inter were the team Udinese beat in the last round.

Morning all - I don't know if any of you like a punt or not but the 14s available on Man City to win the champions league looks a great bet. Granted they have to beat Barcelona but the way they're playing at the moment I'm not sure anyone can get near them.

Iceland and Austria to Play Friendlies Following Nazi Comments
Iceland and Austria will play two friendlies in April to emphasize the good cooperation and friendship between the two countries following widespread coverage and condemnation of Icelandic sports broadcaster Björn Bragi Arnarson’s comments likening Iceland to the Nazis, “slaughtering Austrians” during live coverage of the match on Saturday. The comments were made during the half-time break.

Commenting on the situation, Jean Brihault, president of the European Handball Federation, said: “It is clear that racism and politics have no place in international sport and no place at these championships. The comments made in Icelandic television were regrettable, but I am pleased that the EHF, Iceland Handball Federation and Austrian Handball Federations have sat together to discuss the issue and decided to make this joint statement.”

President of the Austrian Handball Federation, Gerhard Hofbauer, said: “This is obviously an unpleasant incident for handball and the championship, but we understand that this was an isolated comment and does not reflect the views either of the Icelandic people or the Icelandic Handball Federation in any way. As a sign of our continued good cooperation with the Icelandic Handball Federation we have agreed to play two friendly matches in Iceland in April 2014.”

Vice President of the Icelandic Handball Federation, Davíð B. Gíslason, said: “We regret this incident but hope that this will not overshadow the excellent cooperation and long-standing friendship that exists between our two countries as well as the Icelandic and Austrian Handball Federations.”

The Icelandic national broadcaster RÚV, on which the comments were made, released a formal apology immediately after the incident. Kristín H. Hálfdánardóttir, head of the sports division, said in a statement: “Mr Arnarson has apologized for his remarks and based on his reactions and after having meeting with him it is clear that his apology is sincere and that he is fully aware of the severity of his actions.” Further apologies have been made on-air in Iceland by Kristín and Björn.

At the end of this afternoon’s match between FYR Macedonia and Iceland captain of the Icelandic team, Gúðjón Valur Sigurðsson, was interviewed
by ORF, Austrian national television. Gúðjón said: “This was just one man trying to be funny and who went way over the line. I have also discussed this with the Austrian players and made it clear that this is not our view.”
