But it wasn't - they introduced it as their theme tune mid-way through the 1963-64 season. Bill McGarry introduced it at Watford at the start of the same season.

They probably like to claim it as the tune was originally from an old Liverpool folk song called Johnny Todd - and also because Z Cars was supposedly set in Liverpool.

The 2 favoured anthems in merseyside are the them tune from a drama about the police and a song from a musical about an armed robber. Make of that what you will......

It was an unusual spin off, in the Blue Lamp, PC George Dixon was killed!

I went to George Dixon Grammar School and I believe the originator of the series was an old boy and named the lovable cop after his school. The school had I think been named after a much earlier MP who'd had an interest in education.

I am supposed to be working but all I do is read about the game, watch the videos, and grin.

Morning all from a brightening West West London - just about calmed down and looking forward to a calm 2 weeks and the build up to Wembley. I think I am going to go away for a few days straight after the final - somewhere nice and quiet and warm. But you would not change this for the world would you?
It's been brilliant going with Little Miss W_Y all season as she gets quite down when things don't go well - she was so fed up after the Leeds game and I keep telling her that you have to go through these trials to really enjoy the great days. Yesterday I think it finally sank in...

Thanks for the frothy AK and hope the work front sorts itself out...

No I didn't, but I do know they were a Music Hall comedy duo under the working name of " Gert and Daisy," real names were Elsie and Doris Waters!

I was really thinking we had blown it.... wheels come off like I the Aidy era after the Leeds game..... so went into yesterday's match with low expectations..... but just thought maybe we would do something special....and clearly we had the potential to...

Above all I was hoping for some luck.. something to go our way.....as we had had everything go against us over the last two games... and well it did......

Just became one of those special days...... unforgettable....

I think this posting form my Sunderland friend summed it up:

I was stood in a Sunderland working men's club full of Sunderland fans outraged at the cheap, deceitful penalty who all went utterly berserk at the absolute brilliance, justice and astounding drama. Every single Sunderland fan was applauding Watford. Awesome to watch

I think that says it plus the amazing commentary snips I listened to last night.

    What a season.....
