I have just seen the foul that got Rafa so annoyed and I have to say I would send Collocini off for that, his foot is about 5 and a half feet in the air and it is very very dangerous. This is the interpretation of Law 12 regarding a sending off offence, taken from FIFA laws of the game
Morning all from a chilly bandit country. Very good result from quite a scrapy game yesterday. I thought we were a little impatient and it seemed we were rushing to get Tuesday out of our system and our usual slow build up play was being needlessly hurried. One of the great pleasures of this season for me has been that slow, slow, slow build up and the quick, quick passing and finish in the box - the retention and movement have been sublime at times. So yesterday was a bit frustrating at times that were were not being more patient - just how weird is that! Vydra's goal was sublime and he as to take great credit for the second, he sucked in some many players that it opened up the box for the shot. Couple of other mentions, again I have never been a great fan of Doyley, but his defending is immense and with the quality of Casseti in front of him he has an outlet to play the ball instead of his old bombing forward with the crap cross into the box. Overall the defence were very good, calm and stable, even under a lot of Bolton pressure. Finally, I thought that Deeney was total quality - his first touch, hold up play, lay offs and running both with and off the ball were just immense. As a striker, his improvement this season has been outstanding. Didn't score yesterday, but if anyone deserved to, it was Troy. Have to disagree Dan, I don't think that was a red card. He did not deliberately seek to hurt the other player, it was a genuine attempt to clear the ball. Yes it was high and dangerous, so a yellow, but worst of all it should have been called as a foul and thus a penalty. If that had been outside the box, the ref would have called it. Ha, ha - I see the dirty ones returned to earth with a big bump after their FA cup exploits. Losing to Barrow is another all time low and hopefully dents further their promotion hopes - bloody good as well
What if Ba's header had gone in and then it had been called back for a foul and Chelsea had missed the penalty? I agree that Coloccini should have received a card but we don't know what angle the ref (Webb?) saw it from. If he was at an angle that was behind Ba and couldn't see what had connected with Ba (eg he could've thought it was Coloccini's head) why didn't the assistant flag as, whichever side he was, he would've been able to see it.
Well that's an upset - Italians beating the French in the Rugby and will a couple of players in the sin-bin at the end! Historic win...
France have a habit of being involved in the great games. They don't always win them though. Argentina in 2007 (lost), Wales in 2011 (won) and now this defeat are my stand-outs. If they have any chance of winning the league (with the games in hand it's still a possibility), they have to beat Watford Reserves next Saturday. Lose that and they could realistically struggle to make the playoffs.
Enjoyed the Italy win...off to Menton on the French/Italian border in a couple of weeks. Would have been even better to watch it in a bar there...
Menton is one of my favourite places in France. The Jardin botanique exotique de Menton is well worth a visit if you are into such sites Theo, originally built onto an existing property and extended later by the English. A quick trip aross the border for lunch is relaxing, although it does tend to send the mobile phones into meltdown with crossing between two countries.
I went to a local match yesterday (Canterbury Utd 4 Waikato 0) and was introduced to the Canerbury coach as a Watford supporter. The coach said, in a broad Liverpudlian accent, "Watford? They knocked liverpool out of the cup some years back." I said, "1970, Barry Endean scored, Tommy Lawrence, flapped. I was at the game." His response, "Barry Endean! Yeah, that was the fat barstard." It's good to know that Endean is remembered by people other than us.
Thanks for the tip, Frenchie...will definitely visit. We're both fond of gardens and will also use the train to explore the coast and into Italy, perhaps as far as Genoa. We have a Belle Epoque apartment for two weeks so enough time to enjoy la vie francaise.
afternoon all Long working day today and i'm shattered, and not unhappy about the fact that friends have cancelled coming over for dinner...Mr H had done all the cooking so i have food ready to eat, and i don't need to be sociable..perfect evening
If Mrs W_Y did not have other things planned for me to do, I might be tempted to go along and cheer on FGR next Saturday NNW. Might see what I can plot....might cost a bit, but would be well worth it to see our reserves really screw them up.
He does not have to intend to hurt the player, there is no malice required. It can simply be in danger of injuring a player. In my opinion and judgement it it very dangerous to swing your foot that high, and there was a very serious risk of causing injury in that situation. As for this bollocks about if it were out of the box it would be a foul, but not in the box. Surely its a foul wherever the offence occurs! If a player is tripped it is a foul, it does not matter if he is tripped in the box or in the centre circle. It does my bloody head in! Yesterday was the best example, Adcock gave the penalty for a challenge for a challenge which was shoulder to shoulder in the box, but he failed to give anything for the exact same challenge by Hall later in the same half about 25 yards out. If it is a penalty then you would assume it is a poor challenge, so why is it not a free kick.
Trouble is Dan, using the red card for these situations diminishes it's "value". For me a straight red should be for deliberate violent conduct and in that way it remains the ultimate sanction. But worse was the fact that the ref did not call the foul and award the penalty. Watching the football this afternoon reminded me of my other pet hate with refs. They just do not spot the encroachment of the 10 yards at free kicks when it is so obvious - they just have to look at the defenders feet and see them shuffling along. Twice today I saw Liverpool players reduce the distance by at least 1 yard and he did nothing...why do they not watch the whole game?
I think you have to be careful with your wording there WY, if wen took you on your work then we would almost never see a red card. Unless it was for punching or something similar. I dont think many players intend to hurt another player, even when they lunge in with two feet, they are simply desperate to get the ball. However, I think I get what you mean. But where would that leave the player who uses his hand to stop a goalbound shot, or the keeper who handles the ball outside his area, or brings down a striker who is clean through and rounding him for a clean shot on an open goal?
