Morning all, a bit wild and windy in rural France this morning. Heavy showers forecast throughout the day with a rumble of thunder this afternoon. It is my go out and eat with friends Sunday. I wonder what the chef will have dreamt up this month? Every time we go there something new appears on the menu and I love trying out new dishes. Glad we didn't lose yesterday as my Forest friend would have been crowing, and next Saturday a win please so as to keep him in his place. Have a good day
Afternoon all from a very mild and sunny bandit country, I have been doing some baking and the kitchen is lovely and warm. So warm that the tortoise is whizzing around ...satisfied with the point yesterday from the reports I have read and from the "highlights" on the BBC.
Well that was a good meal, tempered by one of our number being involved in a car accident on route. Glad to say he was not badly hurt, but taken off to Poitiers for a check up. The gendarmes arrived to sort out the mess and came to the conclusion that the driver who came out of a side turning had been having an early morning tipple, or a very heavy session last night. Two cars probably written off, but no serious injury is the best part. While on the subject of drinking while driving, we are all supposed to carry two breathalyzers in the car, the only trouble is that no one knows where to buy them. I did manage to get some six months ago, but have not seen any since. I suspect that a lot a fines are being dished out at the random roadsides checks to people who cannot get them.
So you have to use them too? I can just see Cameron & Co latching onto that one - save on the police budget by making drivers carry their own breathalyzer kits around.
Well you are supposed to use them if you have had a small glass of red wine. If you are stopped and haven't tested yourself, then you will be tested by the police if they suspect you have had a drink, and if over the limit they can throw the book at you. There are quite often checks on papers at the roadside, but they also want to see that you have your reflective jacket, warning triangle and spare light bulbs. All rather odd as hazard warning lights are used more than triangles and you cannot change light bulbs without taking half the car apart. Most of the checks happen on much larger roads than we have in these parts. If you set up a checkpoint on our nearest main road, you might only have a couple of passing cars in an hour.
You have to give credit where it is due - BBC does put on a very good show for Sports Personality. Some great and emotional moments..
