Norway - good to hear from you - although we seldom agree I like to read your views and am glad you still "lurk" and hope your rock is only small - varieties of opinion help make this board Consecutive seems good I am anti capital punishment but not soft on sentencing - for me murder should mean life - till death. I could be persuaded that in some instances someone could be let out "on parole" but the sentence should always be able to be resumed should any re-offense of any kind happen. If you take a life you forfeit your own right to live in society. I look forward to that pint and chat
It used to be innocent until proved guilty - he has not been and just because he has been worn down in his fight to clear his anme I think it unfair of the media to now suggest this is any admission of guilt. The US should prove their case or shut up
Morning all Lashing it down at the moment here. Hope it stops before I set off Watford-wards. I wonder how many more loans are still to come? It will need an extra page in the programme soon.
The short answer is yes. Along with his haul of TDF titles, he stands to lose the Olympic bronze medal he won in 2000 along with other race titles, prize money and other awards. Not sure that it is the media who are suggesting his guilt - the World Anti-Doping Agency chief, John Fahey, has been quoted as saying "Armstrong's decision not to fight the charges could only be seen as an admission of guilt. There can be no other interpretation." Which basically suggests that what is happening here is little more than a witch hunt - the guy has been hounded into this decision after years of putting up with, and disproving, allegations. Whether the USADA have the right to strip him of his titles is being questioned too - the International Cycling Union are the sport's governing body & they are understandably miffed at the Yanks as that decision is theirs to make - and that after satisfying themselves that the case has been proven. The only 'evidence' the Yanks appear to have is the testimony of ten of his previous team-mates - who are mostly proven drug cheats themselves. They do have a blood sample which they claim proves 'blood doping' - but it was taken in 2010 after he came out of retirement and five years after his final TDF victory, so can hardly be said to prove his guilt all those years previously. So you are right Leo - the Yanks need to prove their case or shut up. They also need to think about the rather large can of worms that would be opened by pushing things through as they stand now.
From what I believe to have happened over prize money won in the TDF, it is all put into a pot, then divided up with 15% going to the mechanics and the rest split nine ways round the whole team. Just try getting that back.
Morning all from a very beautiful sunrise on the Gulf coast - up early sipping a coffee and watching for early morning Dolphins feeding in the Intercoastal Bay. Sorry to hear about your heel OFH, must be horribly frustrating for you. Not good news about that vile monster in Norway, but like Lenny, I am still totally against the death penalty, but life should mean life with a very though regime. I have just finished a John Grisham book that the describes the 'mechanics' of applying the death sentence in Texas - that is no way to treat a human being either. We are on the watch for the progress of hurricane Issac which is currently brewing just East of Cuba. Depending on how much energy it expends over Cuba and Hispaniola it's track north and east could make for an interesting Monday here - we made need to leave early and evacuate if it builds to hurricane force in the gulf and stay inland a bit. Not happy with the news about Lance Armstrong - my posting name came about from his wins in the tdf and his battle with cancer and his work with the Livestrong foundation. As H and others will know, I never were football shirts so my posting name was not strictly Watford related. When my son told me last night, I was considering changing my posting name - but having read the detail, it looks like a bit of a stitch up,so bollocks to them! We have a fast wifi connection by the pool and will trying to stream the game later on onto my iPad. Time for another coffee and back to dolphin watching...COYH
OFH, get well soon! I think you will find it difficult to rest shall we say just take it easy until you get the all clear to carry on.
West Ham look to be struggling a bit - I wonder how long before the 'ammers fans have enough of fat Sam's style of football? But good to see DG scoring and playing well. Watching it live on ESPN and followed by Fulham - just been announced that Rooney has been dropped for RVP...
Scummers losing 0-1 at home to 9 man Telford Telford sub didn't last long - on and off again in the 82 minute. 15 seconds he was on for, according to 3CR - must surely be a record?
I don't understand why a achilles injury prevents you from drinking wine. Are you crushing the grapes in the traditional way first?
Great day, Watford win in style, Loach gets the smirk wiped from his face and the non leaguers lose to errrrrr Telford...
I always ignore the quacks advise when it comes to not drinking whilst under their care - a few glasses of something strong is the perfect pain reliever. Just off out for the evening - there is a Irish bar just down the road that sells local Ale's. I had a bottle of IPA the other night that was 9.5%, I went down to a 6.6% version after 1! So going there for a couple and then to a nice fish restaraunt for dinner. Good night for celebrating - although sad news about Neil Armstrong
