Evening / Morning all - glad to see Miss H and Pie doing well in their exams, always was a very stressful time, so you also have my sympathy! I was talking to a couple by the pool this afternoon and they were waiting for a text with their daughters results - they are celebrating tonight as she did very well.

What a difference a day makes so they say. Tuesday I was watching seagulls looking for food left behind by people on the beach, while Wednesday evening I was watching house martins swooping through the air hoovering insects up to feed their young in the nests just outside my hospital bedroom.

It all began on Sunday as I chased down a ball on the tennis court. I immediately felt something go in the back of my ankle, and had some difficulty getting off the tennis court. Monday I drove the car on a sightseeing trip up the coast, while on Tuesday drove back from the coast. It didn't seem too bad, a nasty sprain I hoped. By Wednesday morning the swelling was worse and areas were showing signs of heavy bruising.

Off to A&E in town, where doctor had a prod and immediately said you have snapped your Achilles tendon. Off for x-rays, then a further prodding by second white coat, with both of them agreeing that I would have to have an operation on it. Taken off to my room, given some dinner, and received an icy stare when I asked if they had any decent Bordeaux to wash it down with.

Yesterday morning I was given an epidural in the spine and while they chopped and sewed at one end I chatted to the anaesthetist about working in a French hospital compared to the English one he had spent a couple of years in.

Today I am home but I am plastered from the toes to the knee and given instructions not to put any weight on the foot. A month like this, then off to get the plaster changed to a different angle for the foot. 24th October will be the big day when the plaster finally is removed, but until then I have a daily visit from a district nurse to change dressings and stick needles in me.

I think that I have learnt a bit more about life as a sportsman who tears something, and the period of time it takes to recover, not of course that I am liking myself to a paid athlete.;)

Not good news Frenchie...you have my sympathy. I once had tendonitis on my achilles and that was painful enough. A friend of mine snapped his on a remote Phillipine island. They had to fly a helicopter out to get him to a hospital in Manila. It proved very expensive and he had to put up with jokes about how he must feel such a heel. I'm sure you won't get any of those on here...

Not wanting particularly to introduce politics but can't help myself having just seen that B*st*rd in Norway has been given just 21 years for killing dozens of people - and could be out in 10 years. I am not a supporter of capital punishment but if anything could be inclined to change my mind this sort of rubbish sentencing would. How must the families / friends of those murdered feel now?

My sympathies ofh. Been there, done that myself - had a similar incident whilst playing squash.

I must say that I'm impressed with the advanced nature of French medical treatment though - I was in plaster from ar*se to toes for 13 weeks, with foot and lower leg in a very uncomfortable straight line. Sitting on the bog was extremely tricky to say the least - as was scatching the annoying itch that always developed just below the back of the knee. When the plaster was taken off, I then had to wear a shoe with a specially raised heel for a further three months, during which time there was also daily physio to undego. My abiding memory of that period was running on a rebounder for the entire duration of the tv broadcast of the Scotland vs Australia World Cup qualifying play-off match.

I suspect that you'll need a fair few of these over the next couple of months View attachment 17142

The maximum prison sentence in Norway is 21 years, there is a special case when a prisoner can be kept in prison if he is thought to be a danger to other people.

Do the US Anti-Doping Agency have a false idea of what their regulatory powers are? I thought that only the organisational bodies of the events could take medals or titles from the winners of them. I would think that this would mean it would be a decision purely for the International Cycling Federation or whoever it is.

Also, after the probe that ended in February with no charges being filed it makes these charges being issued a bit strange but even stranger is him not contesting them. He's had all the battles to prove his innocence over the years and now he's either saying he is guilty or he just hasn't got any fight left.

He wants to get on with life, he cant beat this charge as its proven to have no base just in vindictive hearsay from folk with an interest in putting him down. Sucks! Whats the point in dope tests if even if they're all negative if i or somebody points the finger and somebody in the agency has it in for you you're stuffed? LA was available 24/7/52 throughout his career, never failed a test, never refused a test, somebody really doesn't like him. He is a 7 time tdf champion and thats a fact of life, as a sportsman he knows he won fairly so thats the important bit and getting on with the foundation.

Morning all from a wet and windy Jersey. Yesterday when I was walking home we had so much rain in such a short space of time that I was wading along the road I live in. There is a tunnel that crosses the end of my road and there was so much water by the pavement on the westbound part that people were having to change lanes and there was a policeman in a van to ensure there weren't any problems. Off to my Mum this afternoon - if my flight is on time, I should be able to watch all of the second half at her place, and possibly some of the first half. Tomorrow I'm off to Budapest for a break, having to fly via Frankfurt, returning next Saturday via Brussels, staying with my Mum again Saturday night before coming back here on the Sunday.

As I'm not taking my any devices that I can get the internet on and not get charged a ridiculous amount (going on the internet on your phone when off-island gives Jersey Telecom a reason to impose high charges) with me, it's TTFN.

Very rarely do I agree with the USA legal system but in the case of sentencing they can sentence for each crime in the case of mass murderers and the sentence can then be either consecutive or concurrent hence if consecutive this would have given him 1000's of years then even with 2/3rds off for right to appeal this would never happen.

Leo I'm surprised considering the number of discussions in the past over violence and killing (so called legally & illegally) for your comment. Perhaps Dizzy has softened your resolve. (It is still my aim to meet you out one day for that pint and a chat).

Does anybody know if people are caught cheating and a win, title, medal etc is withdrawn do they also claim back the prize money e.g. 7 TdeF for Armstrong not to mention all of his other cycling competions. (I know the Olympics are different as there is no prize money) I think Bradley Wiggins got around £350,000 for winning this years Tour.

Morning all from a wet Borehamwood, off down to Kent to visit my Mum but will be able to watch the match this evening at my sisters. Hope it stays dry this evening for those going to the game and we get a good win over Birmingham I'm sure we will be able to keep MK off the score sheet. I see MM has signed Tommy Smith now he really is turning the Redbirds into Watford 2010.

Anyway have a great day all and COME ON YOU 'ORNS :emoticon-0142-happy

Morning all, cloudy here but still no rain. Seeing as I cannot do any watering for a while I have to hope that it gets done naturally.

Had my first visit from the delightful Mme Lebon, the district nurse this morning. Well she was delightful until she stuck this great needle in my arm. She will be coming between 9.00am and 10.00am each day to do the same thing and change the dressing every other day for the next two months. Since starting to type this my turbo charged wheelchair has arrived. Well it will only be turbo charged if I can turn the wheels fast enough. Will be watching the Para Olympics to see if I can get a few tips. ;)

On the Armstrong affair, it is noticeable that the French press are not that happy that the US wants to stick it's nose in when it comes down to the TDF. They are rightly saying that after many investigations there is no evidence against him, and to go on hearsay from others who might have an axe to grind is not the way forward. While he was still riding, the hacks here were always hoping to find something, but they are now being very fair in siding with the world authority who have cleared him.
