Morning all, a cloudy start to the day and it is 16C at the moment, but will rise later when the sun breaks through. We had the expected storm last night with wind and rain, but no hail thank goodness. Watering duties are therefore on hold today. Today is Mother's Day out here, so yesterday I went to my friendly florist to get some flowers for Mme. The lady who can make a splendid bouquet in next to no time was telling two other ladies who came in that English men are far better than the French at buying flowers for their wives, doing it for the English and French days. Maybe the old tale about the French being more romantic is a bit of a myth. Coffee will go down well before we go off to the plant sale at one of the local Chateau. I just hope they don't have anything too expensive that is a "must have".

Morning all from a very damp bandit country - had pur 2nd BBQ of the summer last night and I had to do it under a big golfing umbrella! House is empty - #2 son has gone to a music festival and daughter is at work. But Mrs W_Y & I are off to the Cotswolds this afternoon for a couple of days - we have a wedding reception tomorrow evening and taking advantage with another night out tonight! Hope the weather improves!
Morning all Grey here but not yet raining...might get an hour tidying up the garden before lunch. Six hours to drive back from Yorkshire yesterday raising the usual unanswerable questions like...why do drivers change lanes when everyone is moving two inches per minute?
This afternoon I watched some of the pageant from the Thames and was struck by the huge number of people who braved the weather to line the banks to see the spectacular event. Possibly a million people turned out to see this once in a generation event. This is not about the monarchy and if you support it or not, but it is about the commercialisation of the UK. Today, a Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, public holidays, many people are having to work in non-essential jobs. Is it really necessary for people to keep Tesco and Sainsbury open? Is it beyond the wit of the average person to do their shopping before a holiday so that they can spend some family time? In May we had four public holidays and for the first time that I remember some of the large stores tried to open for half a day so that people could buy bread. It did not work. The public stayed away according to reports. I suppose that if people do visit the shops on holidays they will continue with the practice, but from my viewpoint it would be a good thing if they didn't bother and it was not profitable for the stores to open, which might help to re-build family life.
Hello all. How is everyone. That was a productive weekend, i finished stripping the wallpaper and now just have to sugar wash the walls and then clean the coving and then paint the ceiling. I just have to decide what colours to paint the walls. The issue i have is that one wall will be a tribute to WFC with my signed shirt framed and other memorabilia on it. Any ideas from anyone?? The carpet is currently a faded blue, but that might change too.
evening all...busy day here, but have enjoyed a restful evening in front of the final for the Apprentice...the best man won (no spoilers ) tomorrow we have our street party, i'm sure it's going to bucket down! They've asked me to sing, anyone got the music for singing in the rain? lol Thanks for the caramel latte Ak
very exciting..i've booked my ferry and hotel in Ireland ...going for a week, using it as a little holiday....should be fun!
Morning all, a bit cooler this morning with showers forecast for later. Car has to be taken for a service this morning, including getting the aircon re-charged. No doubt having forked out for that I won't need it.
I am late today sæll til allra. Cappuccino, coffee, tea donuts and fruit are on the bar. I will not put out your usual drinks today as most of you will be celebrating the jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II and the not royal supports will agree missing out on is not really fair. Yesterday was good hewre and today is supposed to be the same. It is not. We have clouds and 6C.
Morning all A cloudy one here but dry. Waiting for my daughters to arrive for lunch which will be fun as they don't often manage to get here at the same time. We shall make the most of it...
morning all! I saw the sun this morning, it was hugely exciting, i hope the rain stays off for the street party ...things are hotting up down this street..lots of bunting and flags and everyone getting in the mood. Personally, all i have to do is make a couple of loaves and sandwiches and warm up the vocal chords
what a great day Street parties are meant to be that way! A few spots of rain at the beginning soon disappeared, though how British would it have been to have a street party in the rain! lol. With loads of entertainment, open gardens, a treasure hunt, a nature trail, face painting and biscuit decorating, table tennis and football, a massive tea with a variety of yummies and seeing neighbours i don't think i've ever seen before, and having a blinkin' good laugh with them..(that might have something to do with the champagne ) Trying to insert a picture but it won't let me
Evening all. What a lovely day that was. I went to see Dark Shadows at the cinema with Kiri and spent the day in Peterborough, now just settling down to watch the rest of the concert. I tuned in at the right time to hear EJ singing.
I am glad that you had a good day. I enjoyed the concert tonight, even if some of the sound quality left something to be desired. Still that was a minor thing really and I am amazed at how the technology allows an event such as this to take place. For me as someone who was at the coronation, it bought back many happy times. As a part-time musician I think that I have been very privileged to have lived through times when we have had so many supremely talented composers and performers come out of the UK. To think that as a lad I was stood on that cinder bank with EJ cheering on our favourite football team is good enough for me, although I wonder how he made it and I didn't.
After Sir Paul McCartney's performance tonight, you have to wonder the same! Still, you're right, aside from the sound issue, it was better than i expected. I did like the sight of Princess Anne getting almost excited in her seat, made me chuckle.
