Morning all, off to huge street market today where there should be some plants that we want. The sun like me has just struggled out of bed and another fine day looks to be ahead. All of my grass cutting yesterday certainly gave me a good nights sleep, still a cup of tea or two should bring some life back. Have a profitable day whatever you have to do.
H - We are a bit of both. Mrs W_Y will have reasonable pensions when we retire (my company closes it's final salary scheme in 2014, but I will have nearly maxed it anyway by then) and I have accumulated a lot of AVC's over the years when various companies I have worked for have given nice incentives to do so - my current company are giving me 10% tax free on my AVC's! So if I save £200 a month in AVC's, they make it up to £220 and that is before tax! I would have thought that if you were self-employed, a personal pension were you paid a lot into AVC's would be a good idea, they are very tax efficient and flexible in that you can take a lot out in cash and not forced to buy a ****ty annuity policy. But I have no other savings as I spend it all on Little Miss W_Y at Uni and having fun! Too true Norway...as long as there is time for a beer! Morning all from a bright start in West West London, although there are some very high clouds this morning. I hope the weather holds for Saturday as I have a long day out...it's the stag do of a fella who works for me.. 1. Train to West Hampstead - Full English and a few pints of the black stuff 2. Tube to Wembley and early afternoon in the pub with the chaps 3. Saracens v Harlequins at Wembley 4. Coach to Richmond 5. Party Boat up The Thames to The Tower. 6. Depending what state I am in:- either clubbing it or the train home..
Morning all, another gorgeous day, let's hope the sun shines on my test today...2nd of the week, and i'd like one of them to be a pass! Now that i've caught up without reading the whole of your spoiler, i think Jane is very lucky to still be there! lol Good luck Yorkie...i hope today goes well for you Hmm, that seems like a good way to be w_y, a bit of both is the perfect compromise...i can understand caution, but as has been said, you only get one shot at this life thing, always best to make the best of it Have a great day!
I totally agree with you Aberdeen, so sorry to hear about your parents. My Father died 5 years ago. My parents had been together since they were 16, 64 years before my Dad died. My Mum had been fit and healthy and loved life, however shortly after my Dad died she started showing signs of Dementia and this has progressed to such that, for her own safety she has had to go into a care home. When she has coherent moments she always says that she has had a lovely life and would not change any of it (but adds except losing my Dad) and would like to just go to bed and fall asleep with no tomorrow to wake up to. Pam (my wife) sat down and had a long talk last night and decided that I would not take the Vol Redundancy offered. With things as they are at present it may be the wrong decision but as I said earlier if it was 2 years time I would have bitten their hand off taking it. Best of luck Yorkie with your dilemma which ever path you choose I'm sure it will be the right one for you.
Good on you Charlie - that is the best way to come to a decision - if you have discussed and agreed then it makes it right for you - hope things go well for you
Morning all Another bright morning. Delphiniums, foxgloves and lupins to plant out this morning...then it might be reading in the sunshine for an hour or two. I took early retirement seven years ago and remember wondering if it was the right thing to do. My wife had died far too young four years before that and I thought I might feel a bit isolated. Since then I've remarried, moved to the country, written three books, visited many new places and not regretted the decision at all. I would have had a bit more pension each month if I'd worked another 5/6 years but I'd have missed a lot of enjoyment too!
Góðan daginn til allra. Cappuccino, coffee, tea donuts and fruit are on the bar. Frothy cappuccinos for for al, HH, Leon and W_Y Coffees for COYH, Frenchie, Kev rob theo and vic-rijrode Strong coffee for Sandy Milky coffee for Yorkie Espresso for SuffolkHorn Strong black coffees for Bragi Norway and zen Black coffee half hot half cold and no sugar for Charlie Tea for BHD jsybarry jerzeypie Lloydinio NZ and BCFCRed Hot chocolate with marshmallows for BBW Tea with skimmed milk and no sugar for GG Caramel latte for Hornette Good luck with voluntary redundancy scheme or not talking with HR or not and holidays in London, boat trips and rugby. This is odd. Petrol price went up ISK4,00 and diesel ISK2,00. Diesel is now cheaper than petrol for a long time it was reversed. They are ISK266,10 and ISK 265,40. I think this is GBP1,317 and GBP1,313 in your money. The weather is 11C a little windy cloudy and dry so good. The weather people say snow next week.
Thanks Leo and you Impressed of Borehamwood here, well done Theo, I've tried to write a book and started several times but find excuses not to progress. So you've written 3 books going by your name Hornithologist was the books about Rosemary & Thyme ?
And with Elgin Franklin shut in and the knock on it'll have with the ecolobby expect prices to go up up up... I guess its good for my industry Oil E&P!!!!
Did you hear that slimy git from Total try and wriggle out of it on 5 Live last night? "Oh, when we said that all sources of ignition had been neutralised, we did not include this flare that is still burning as it is low risk..." Total? yeah Total scum bags, always have been and always will be...
Did you hear the breaking news about the massive oil spill from the tanker just off the Island of Honalee. Large loss of life to the local wild life including a Dragon frolicking on the beach
thanks for the coffee too Ak. Lucky you Charlie, all my local garages have now run out of petrol..very scared about Saturday now!
Heard on the radio this morning that the Saudis are dropping the price & that we should expect prices to go down down down! The cynic in me says that the Tories are deliberately causing the panic buying that's happening in case it is true - they want to milk us for all the VAT they can before it happens.

Nope way of the mark... The saudis can't drop the price just increase production but only by a limited amount and just about enough to stabilise the price if/when the iran sanctions bite, now if iran then closes the straits of hormuz you'll see oil at 200 bucks a barrel and a real double dip on the recession front. We need to stabilise this price at between $100 and $140.... for that we need iraq, russia and saudi to work in union. We've also got Chavez about to die in Vewnezuela and thats going to cause problems in USA oil supply when they start their internal bickering.... Lots of things to worry about energy wise!!!
Hugo Chavez is a lunatic, he spends his time goading the USA and trying to destabilise the nations immediatly around him to try and get them to adopt his version of a socialist revolution. He has gone so far now even the Venezuelans are fed up with him. He has lined his brother up to succeed him, showing complete disregard for any democratic process. "Everyone can vote, but they MUST vote for me; if they don't we will stop them living a decent life". Not a nice man.
