Thanks for all your great work Ak, whether on 606 or not. <applause>

Whoever takes up the role will find this season in particular a tough act to follow.

Sad news Ak as yours are one of the best on here, but it's fully understandable. They look like they take a lot of time to create, so a big thank you for all your hard work. I hope this doesn't mean less time on here though <ok>

    Morning all

Hope we're not losing the thread altogether...

Thanks, AK...your threads were always a great way to catch up on any game I couldn't get to and provoked some good debate too.

Morning all - grey day in West West London. Just updated my desk calendar with fixtures and stuff and March is one busy month - 8 matches!

Morning all. It is 2a.m. here and I have been to the After Hours doctors clinic with young master NZ who has an ear infection. I now have Miss NZ on my lap who is not happy because the last of her teeth are coming through. THEN, then, then I get an email that I have been hoping for. I am very excited. I want to shout but I have to be quiet. It's 2 in the morning, so I am telling you lot. I hope you don't mind me being self-indulgent.

To cut a very long story very short, I spent the first few years of my life in South Africa. My mother died in an accident that seriously injured me and my father was kicked out of the country for political reasons. I was too badly hurt to travel. I spent some time with a 'good' Afrikaner family steeped in the way of the biblical passages that said Blacks are inferior and that my parents must be athiest communists for not agreeing, before ending up with another family who were wonderful to me.

Anyway, with a few scraps of childhood memories and the power of the internet I emailed some people in South Africa who I thought may be the family, doubting if they would remember as their parents, who took me in, must now be dead.

I have just had a wonderful positive response and now have an open invitation to South Africa. They remember me and want to catch up. A whole period of my life where I have been alone in my memories has opened up. I have found someone who was there. For me this is amazingly significant.

Told you it was self indulgent. Sorry

Glad to hear that your searching has been rewarded. Will you delay your visit until NZ are there for the cricket or the rugby?

    Good news NZ.

Had a similar search myself 20 years ago so I know how important it can be to fill in the seemingly lost bits of your childhood. Hope the reunion goes well when it happens...

good evening all, another hectic day in the car...but time to breathe now. i'm thinking about heading out for more table tennis but i'm not sure i've got the energy! I'll cook dinner first and see how it goes :)

lol..you're a bad man Ak...you have to watch fewer of those 'special interest' films ;)

    yes indeedy! I can't wait!

Wow NZ, that's fantastic, i'm so thrilled for you! Congratulations :). A strange thing happened to my dad along similar lines a fair few years ago...but it's a very long story...so i'll tell it another time, when i have more time!

Just registered pie and I for the round the island walk on 23rd June. Over 48 miles, a lot of cliffpaths including a load of steps, starting at 3am - great fun!!!
