morning all! i'm glad for you too about the heating system M Frenchie! Years ago i visited a friend in the German countryside. She lived in a stone farmhouse with no heating, but there were fire boilers in every room...you wouldn't have known it! I slept every night with 3 jumpers and 2 pairs of socks on. It was blinkin' freezing! I vowed never to go there in winter again...sadly i never managed to get to see her again, but that's another story...

I was just having a lovely lie in this morning when the phone rang...the alarm man was waiting outside...it's a shame my reminder in my phone reminded me on silent! lol..whoops ;)

Along with my French neighbour we feed the birds during the cold months of the year. She had prepared their breakfast this morning when I popped in to see her, there was enough for a small family of humans.

As I sit at the computer I can see over the garden to the fields beyond. So far we have had Great Tits, Blue Tits, Robins, Wrens, Goldfinches, Blackbirds, Doves, House Sparrows and Hedge Sparrows all in to feed. In the trees at the far side of the fields the Rooks have been busy building their nests and the Buzzards are sitting on the branches peering intently at the ground to see if any small rodent is moving.

Peanuts, which the tits love, are not really available out here, so when we go over to the UK we stock up, including a supply for Josiane. She is very pleased to have them as at one time she was buying little packets of salted ones which she would then wash to get rid of the salt.

The simple pleasures of country folk. ;)

Latest on the Pompey saga is that the administrator has been to the city council to see if they will put some money in to the club. They have said no, they don't have any.

This could still have quite a bearing on who is going to get relegated come the end of the season.

Morning all from a rather damp looking Gloucester. On the SSN ticker tape it said that Pompey have rentered administration, surely that means a 10 point deduction?

As for feeding the birds, I have my bird feeder out but alas due to us being on the very edge of the new estate I rarely see any birds in my back garden:( Out the front of my house is open land that is until the new developers start but at the moment there is just clear ground, I suppose they get their food from the overturned earth? When I lived in the other side of Gloucester we always had our little feathered visitors and I used to food out for them there as well. I will still persist though;)

Ak, some managers are slimy creatures and only come out from below their rocks to receive and accept praise otherwise they don't come out out, especially when the brown stuff hits the fan<laugh>

When Portsmouth close down will two teams be put down in division one and enough brought up through the leagues to fill their hole?
The real bad side of Portsmouth closing is Luton Town may return to the league.

Come on Portsmouth money men stop arguing and sort the finance out!

M Frenchie, that does sound lovely...it reminds me so much of my parents' old place in Menoire.....

Ah well...

Is that an Easter egg Kev? Or a rugby ball?

The Pompey thing worries me a little, but i'm sure we're safe now, with or without them...

Al, last time Pompey went into administration they only had a 9 point deduction..maybe they'll get 15 to make up for it ;)

Pompey would probably get 15 points as it's their second stint in admin - but they have to remain as a club otherwise the dirty one's might get auto-promotion!

Problem with trying to feed the birds in our garden is it attracts a group of Rooks and big fat Wood Pigeons who attempt to swing off the nut feeders and scare the small birds away. Putting out bread and pieces of fat then attracts the Starlings - what is it about Starlings that I just do not like? They are the equivalant of the dirty one's in the bird world!

Bright sunny day now in West West London...

You need some of these. They will scare all the other birds. Fálki female is big the wings are up to 1,6m and 64cm long from beak to tail. Weight is 2,1kg. Male birds are a little smaller.

Assuming he's in the first XV, I see they're playing UBB, so hopefully they'll lose as that's the team my ex father-in-law supports.

I'm going over on the 6th April, they have an Amlin match against Harlequins. I'm actually a Sarries fan, but my house mate and the player's missus are both Quins fans, so going over for it!

Afternoon all

Great tit and blue tits visible out of the window as I type. We get all the birds OFH mentioned as well as greenfinches, woodpeckers, dunnocks, nuthatches and thrushes regularly plus some occasional visitors like redwings (this morning) and pied wagtails. I don't like rooks, magpies or starlings trying to get at the feeders and chase them off when I see them.

We have lots of bluetits and a few robins but not many sparrows in our garden. Don't want to encourage too many birds though as I'm hoping we'll get another cat. Speaking of cats, have you seen this...

‘Football is an emotive subject, stirring in an individual anything from deep passion to resentment.

‘It has become so commercial that it may be thought by some to have lost its way.’

The Judge in his summing up of the HR and MM tax evasion trial said the above. I suspect he must follow football in his spare time.

We fed an endangered bird in our garden last winter. A Karearea, the NZ Falcon, plummeted out of the sky and grabbed one of our chickens. It was all rather grizzly.
