Morning all from Bristol another day at the grindstone:( I really must get going with some exercise but shift work does not lend itself for feeling up to exercise after a 12 hour shift or even before<yikes> I think getting up at 0530 is exercise itself<laugh> Still must do better;)

Morning Ak thanks for the coffee, hope all is Mad there in a good way not with Problems.

Falling asleep at a football match reminds me of the Home International (remember those) between England & Scotland in 1979.

Following the problems at Wembley in 1977 (when the Scots won 2-1 and invaded the pitch, ripping up turfs and breaking the crossbar). The Scotish fans were not welcomed in 1979, the underground between central London & Wembley did not run that day likewise no buses ran. The pubs in and around Wembley were closed and a large Police Presence was apparent. That day thousands of Scotish Fans walked from central London to Wembley and saw their team beaten 3-1. Then then had to walk back to London.

I was a youngish PC at the time and was posted to Wembley for the match then to Leicester Square for the evening to cover any trouble. The Scotish supporters were no trouble and the day went off fine. About 10.30pm I was outside a club on the corner of Leicester Square when I came upon a middle aged Scotish supporter sitting on the kerb crying. He had obviously had a drink but not drunk. I went up to him and asked him if he was okay. He said he was upset about the game. I said nobody likes to see their team lose 3-1 but it wasn't really a crying matter. He said the problem was he had travelled down over night from Glasgow to Euston he was with a few of his mates and with the aid of a few cans of McEwens Export and some bottles of electric soup they had partied the night away. They had then walked all the way to Wembley assisted by their carry outs and finally arrived at the ground around 2.00pm. He and his mates entered the ground and were in the terrace area. Being completly knackered he sat on the terrace leaning back against a crush barrier post and dropped off to sleep. The next thing he recalls was his mates dragging him out of the ground at the end of the match. The reason he was crying was he had spent a fortune on tickets & booze, walked miles and miles to Wembley from London and back and his team had lost 3-1. He was upset because he had not even seen a football at Wembley let alone a football match. I commiserated with him, he then got up and went back into the bar/club a short while later he came back with 2 glasses with a wee dram in each, gave a glass to me and we drank a toast to football.

    Cheers mate wherever you are.

Nice story Charlie, back to the days when the police were allowed to be normal people on the beat.

Problems are bad type. I had things to make yesterday before a certain time twice and today again. I do not like being given work which I know will take a long time and I am told to do it by kl13:00. All that means is no lunch and a bigger pay cheque.

Just in the process of posting a miserable and depressing bit about trying to get on line with my 3G thingy, when the light on my modem went green and I find that I am connected to the outside world again. Engineer telephones to say that it was a problem in the exchange and not my bit of wire. Why it has taken a month to get them checking it out is beyond me, and will no doubt be the subject of some interesting correspondence.

As I see the bar is free I will go for a pint of bubbly please. ;)

Afternoon H how's the speech going.

At one I attended the President's Lady gave a speech that had a story about when her Husband first joined the Lodge and she kept pestering him to know the secret handshake and password. He wouldn't tell her for ages then eventually he decided he had had enough so he showed her a handshake and told her a password. He thought nothing about it until a couple of months later at his Lodges Ladies Night when being introduced to the Master & his Lady he saw his wife shake the masters hand and utter the password he had told. Highly embarrassed he appoligised to the Master and they went into the dinner. The Password he had told was 'Slip it to me Worshipful Master' whist rubbing the inside of his palm with her middle finger.

Hope you have a great time on Saturday :emoticon-0102-bigsm
