Morning all, clear blue sky over eastern bandit country today and not too cold either. Another day of general tidying up around the office as this week is always very quiet for me. Luckily I have a service manual to produce which should keep me slightly occupied for the next month.

Turned out to be a bright sunny day in West West London...still no email! Engineers having trouble restoring the back-up's, but not have as much trouble as when the inbox's start up!

Sandy - oohh, I love service manuals and would happily spend hours reading them. The manuals at Marconi & Tektronix where I used to work were pieces of Art...OCD, who me?

You'll love mine then w_y, 150 pages of bbq's and garden furniture specifications!! I've normally finished it by now but been a bit delayed this year. Best bit is sorting out the format and how its going to look :). Boring bit is inputting all the data :emoticon-0113-sleep

    Morning all

Severe Christmas haircut done, accompanied by a tot of whisky (never used to get that in N London!), car filled up with petrol, plum sauce to go with duck simmering nicely...time for a coffee and contemplating whether I really need to clean the car...

Not tried this myself but it might work?

Try to Repair the iPod Via the “Rice Method”

Since the warranty does not cover water damage, try to fix the unit by opening it up and trying to dry it out completely. One way to totally dry out the iPod is by using the Rice Method. Although it is not guaranteed to work, it is well worth a shot.

    The Rice Method
Take the iPod apart as best as possible by opening it up, removing the battery, and gently wiping the parts with a cotton swab and alcohol. Once all the parts have been separated, put them in a plastic bag with dry, uncooked rice. Leave these items in the dry rice for about 24 to 48 hours. It is also a good idea to keep the bag in a dry, warm environment. Once the time has elapsed, put the iPod back together and see if it works.

AK - It's the rather lovely Gloria Estefan

BHD - There is bound to be a film on YouTube on how to dry out an iPod, thing to watch is the battery. Get it open and dry out the battery and connectors and all should be OK - unless it was a boil wash!

The issue is you cannot take the I-pod touch apart. They have built it so that it doesnt do that. They wont even repair them at the apple store, you buy a new one or get it replaced. Its in the Airing cupboard so hopefully it will be hot enough, it was only a quick wash so it was not in too much water for too long, and it had a waterproof case, so it should have kept out the worst. I will certainly have a look though, its cannot hurt. Thanks W_Y

BHD - Everything can come apart, it's just a question of how!
Just Google "Repairing an iPod Touch" and you will find plenty of sites. Most are offering a repair service for broken screens and water damage, but there are a few "how to" sites as well. I quickly looked at one and this guy filmed himself replacing the screen cover which is very complex - but it shows how to get the cover off. If you are not confident at doing that sort of stuff have you got a Uni mate that might? If not, you will have to pay to get it fixed!

Maybe i should rephrase that then, its not meant to come apart. I have had a look on youtube, but on the 3 vids i watched there were about a dozen people all complaining that they had done that but could not put the back back on and had to buy a new one. I dont want to risk breaking it even more if it can dry out. I dont know anyone who knows what to do, but will keep looking. If worst comes to worst i can wait till next semester and use my free grant to buy a new one.
