You don't have talk some amount of ****e. Kirsty MacColl was a good singer who got her career from her father, the famous folk-singer Ewan MacColl, writer of such classics as Dirty Old Town and The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.

Now, if you want a bad singer then look no further than her close friend, Billy Bragg.

Not agreeing with that, listen to A Pair of Brown Days,Rainy Night in Soho or even Waltzing Matilda when McGowan could sing albeit 30 years ago and give Rum,Sodomy and the Lash a listen, great album. As for MacColl she did an alright version of Bragg's New England but I certainly wouldn't say she couldn't sing.

    Absolutely spot on.

I liked some of Kirsty's music but her voice was ****ing dreadful.

And The Pogues were just utter ****, end of story.

And yes, Billy Bragg is yet another typical champagne socialist who also happened to write utter ****e music. Utter prick, a talentless one at that.

Maybe but Billy penned a rhyming couplet :
I had a uncle once who played
    For Red Star Belgrade.
Do you think Billy was writing in the

Shakespearian or Patarchan style of sonnet, asking for a friend

Can't let this go,could you name another song besides Fairytale etc would you be surprised to hear that McGowan is regarded as up there leading songwriter of his generation and his writing is looked upon as scholars see Yeats or Behan and no not the builders out of Cricklewood

Can't change an opinion held for over 30 years regarding McGowan and MacColl. I've had enough people blah blah blah about what a fantastic songwriter old toothless Shane is and that I have to ignore the slurring and mick drone that makes anything by the Pogues unlistenable to fully appreciate what a poet he is etc etc.

As for our Kirsty even her first foray into pop with There's A Guy Works Down The Chip Shop Swears He's Elvis was hampered by her fake American twang and I still maintain her voice, though distinctive, hits the flats and sharps too often. Whether it was her Dad or husband who got her into the industry doesn't make much difference, she wasn't a good singer.

Mr Bragg is another example of a supposedly great songwriter and his voice fits his style of music but I'd rather listen to cows sh.itting down a well than sit through his criminal attempts at singing.

"Oh, who do you think is a better singer then Grove?" is to be expected but it mostly comes down to personal taste. I could list 100 singers who I like and I'd expect 99 of them to be called utter garbage by you twats, it's all subjective.

Much as I appreciate GroveRanger nominating me for POTY - unlike any other **** - I do have to say that I suspect he has a stratocaster guitar and therefore anything he says about music has to be treated as flyover country.

    Sorry bud

I have a Stratocaster, a Telecaster, a Les Paul, a Yamaha acoustic and a ukulele (all the gear, no idea!) so make of that what you will.

I have an eclectic taste in music too, just doesn't stretch to hammered paddies at Christmas.

Get Brexit on that Stratocaster for the sake of all that's decent !!!
Yamaha make very good acoustics these days, good choice old bean.
I got a Yamaha A3R limited edition, in black, all mahogany, about a year ago, one of the best acoustics I've ever bought

I resisted the Strat for some time but Fender brought out a revised made in Mexico range this year and I liked the colour. Yes I am that shallow. Also wanted something full-scale but with a thinner neck than the Tele which is a bit like a baseball bat and I only have stumpy fingers which makes it hard to play.
The Les Paul is only an Epiphone copy but it looks lovely, I have promised myself a real Gibson LP next year. I was thinking of getting one when I am in the States but might get tripped up by the new CITES regs which prohibits the movement of rosewood.

You might not like them but the Strat is the most comfortable of my guitars and is the easiest to play. I do like the sound from the Tele more though.
