Wouldn't say he knew exactly what he was doing, but he certainly left his arm out there where the ball could hit it. The "I couldn't get my arm out of the way" argument is bollox imo - don't leave your arm where it could get right in the way. It's the equivalent of those players who commit dangerous challenges then claim they were only going for the ball and didn't mean to hurt the player. Then don't make a challenge that has a good chance of hurting the player!
