Hopefully your wait will be concluded this season. But everyone's entitled to an opinion - it's how that's expressed that matters. So long as you don't boo and don't make scathing comments on social media sites, you're entitled to remain unconvinced of yet. Think he'll come good, though
Have been underwhelmed by de Ridder...cannot survive in PL on cameo performances. However, I hope he is just on a learning curve...always wish the best for any Saints player.
Thought De Ridder did well on saturday. I still think he will turn in to a decent player for us. He is just terribly frustrating because he certainly doesn't lack talent just decision making. If he can work on that, we will have quite some player on our hands.
I try to stick to the principle that the only time I slag off a Saint is if I don't think he cares. On this basis I even gave the much maligned Jermaine Wright the benefit of the doubt. Guly seems to love playing and his reaction to creating a goal is much like when he scores one - he loves it. As it happens, I am in the camp that also thinks he is one of the most skillful players to pull on e Saints shirt. So yeah, I love the guy and am delighted we're signing him on for longer. As good as a new signing. De Ridder seems keen to impress, but needs harnessing. If anyone can do this then Saints' coaching team can.
I think De Ridder tries too hard - I feel at times he needs to put his foot on the ball, look for the simple inside pass and then look for the return down the wing, rather than seemingly trying to take the full back on each and every time. Has talent, but as others have mentioned - his decision-making is poor. Certainly want him to achieve.
Eh. He looked dangerous but he was playing against Martin Angha (who prefers CB, as well) - hardly the kind of defender he'll face with regularity in the Premier League. Even so he didn't look great - it was just a case of running fast in no real direction and hoping nobody bothered to stop him. He put in one good ball, which is one more than I saw all season, but still, people saying he was great are just being deceived by the fact he isn't afraid to run quite quickly despite having no real direction.
I'm still in "give Stevo a chance" mode. A Nigel pre-season can do wonderful things you know. As for this topic, the only thing I can add is why was it not created and stickied a year ago.
Excuse the cliche but you can only play against who is in front of you Dan and as you said, he looked dangerous. Nobody is saying he was great (at least I'm not), I just thought he did well. In my opinion, and it is a controversial one, the only thing stopping him being better than lallana is, as I have said, his decision making. As it stands because of that he isn't in Lallana's league at the moment but I seriously wouldn't be surprised, with a bit of hard work, to see him become just as important. He is a rough diamond and I know these things should have been ironed out of his game many years ago when still a teenager but decision making is something you can learn, talent is something that you either have or dont and he has. Anyway who cares, lets get back to loving Guly.
