I opened up a pandora"s box with what I thought might be a dead issue for a lot of folk but some response and vitriol. Thanks.
I used to be absolutely F1 mad in the 70's, 80's, 90's and early-mid 2000's until you know who appeared and started telling everyone how underprivileged he was, and how he had to fight for recognition and to get a chance of a drive because he was of colour, and started playing the race (ha ha !) card at every opportunity. All these stories have since been debunked by other drivers and acquaintances over the years, so you can throw in liar to his make up too. I loved F1 so much I'd always get up at 03.00 for the Australian GP, and have left beaches in Spain and the Canary Islands on a Sunday afternoon to find a bar with a TV that was showing the race. So despite being English and very patriotic, I cannot, and will not support Hamilton who is a hypocrite and at times utterly objectionable. I also no longer watch F1. A good driver he may be, a good human being he isn't.
You’re entitled to your opinion, I wouldn’t even try to change it. I happen to totally disagree with you .
I wasn’t keen on him in the early days , although I loved his driving. I may be wrong but I think he’s matured and changed a lot of his views, given up his plane, and got a social conscience, I do still strongly disagree with his views on removing statues etc, although I respect them. As you said it’s all about opinions and I also respect yours.
In my work for a charity … Myself and my fellow employees would not do similar. His actions and behaviour display otherwise. He ply’s his trade in the company of homophobes, misogynists and racists. That is his choice to make socio economic political gains for homophobes, misogynists and racists, and to take associated wealth for himself. Mr Hamilton is a friend and a supporter of prejudice.
I didn’t realise you had a talent for driving an F1 car John. edit Sorry got you confused there, I meant Cliftonville.
I am no expert here but I think i'm right in saying that Mercedes are not the only F1 team in the sport and most do not have a slave owning background, or can you post a list of non millionaire F1 drivers for us perhaps even claiming family credit to make ends meet.
Thankgod somebody has a smile on their face,.. Here is a joke about racecar - it's a palendrome.. Depressed race car mechanic. Scene: a psychiatrists practice: 'Doc, I'm a mechanic I work for a racecar driver. It's utterly depressing ... I get to fix his car up, maintain it, tune it to perfection. But never -not once- have I been allowed to take it for a spin. It's crushing a depressing to think that such a wonderful thing is out there purring, but I'll never get to enjoy it. ...' 'Well sir, I think I understand just fine, my brother in law has the exact same problem.' 'Is he a mechanic too doc?' 'No, a gynecologist'
He’s a world class F1 driver, of course he wants to drive for the best F1 team. As I explained to Jiffy he can’t control their past, he has however set up and supports the Hamilton Trust, which supports young people from diverse backgrounds to get into F1 Engineering etc. so yes I’m judging him on his actions. Of course had he not chosen Mercedes’ and made a fortune he wouldn’t of been able to set up the Hamilton trust.
I wouldn't worry mate, just wait for the 4 year cheat fest gravy train to arrive in Qatar and watch loads of millionaires especially England taking the knee in a country with country with similar inhuman laws as Saudi and links to terrorism even suspected of some involvement in the Manchester arena bomb.
But he wants to control the past for others, with his support for cancel culture. The last sentence is nonsense, again you seem to be claiming all drivers not driving for Mercedes are somehow living on the breadline.
