We need someone better than Targett for left back cover/rotation and Krafth at RB (i prefer him as emergency CB cover anyway)..and Burn is going to decline quite soon. Is Osula actually gonna be good enough, striker needed imo.
You'd still need to leave his space free if he's not so might as well register him. This was going to be my next point but thought I'd written to much for some... Probably 6/7 of the names on the right of my list need replacing after that - Odys, Krafth, Tragett, Osula, Murphy - probably Burn and Schar in due course as well as they aren't getting younger in the not to distant future as well. But for next year the squad is "covered sufficiently" with 3 additions - not great, not awful, just ok with room to improve substantially.
It'll all get sorted out, but we have to just show understanding and patience, which was all they asked for from day one Ekitike would be an ideal signing, because he can play anywhere across the front 3.
Honestly though mate he's absolutely class, and would definitely be a good signing. There's others too, but it won't surprise me if Newcastle are still watching that one.
That will have been flushed down the toilet mate. No ****ing way the club go back and deal with him or his bell end of an agent ever again. I get your going to say it was his boyhood club etc, but they took the piss all over instagram laughing at Newcastle. No way we go back for him.
I don't think they did take the piss personally, and were probably close to signing, until PSG came in. There's some reports Liverpool want him anyway, but he's definitely going to get a move somewhere the way he's currently playing. I'm really just pointing at that type of player being ideal. Someone that can play right across the front 3 would be more advantageous than a Wilson or even a Delap who looks a top player. We're thin, so money spent on a player that covers 3 or even 4 positions is ideal.
We have been very patient..we had Ashley for 14 years and havent won a cup for donkeys. If there's one fanbase you can say has been patient it's us.
The prescribed time frame for winning the league was 5 to 10 years. It's not even the lower end of that time frame just now. It's going well.
Good news, but the Neanderthals will start complaining regardless. They would jump into bed with any signing, rather than wait for the better longterm option.
Just playing devils advocate here pal but are there any short term solutions that you'd have looked at yesterday? Tels went to Spurs with an option on loan, Diasi to Villa, Evan Ferguson to West Ham, all good deals imho that could have helped us strengthen the squad for the run in. Chilwell to Palace even - is that a better option that Target? could we have sold/ shipped Target out and got Chilwell in. Think we were having the discussion about sponsors the other week - don't need to be a long term fix, can be a short term solution.
So I've had a look and I think there’s a sliding scale depending on the tournament due to be implemented, so you're at 70% for the CL, 75% for the EL and 80% for the EC, 85% for the rest. Let's say we get EL this season finishing 6th and our revenues for the last period are £400m. There are also permissable losses of around £50m (£60m in Europe). That's a total allowable spend of £350m, including coaching, amoritised players and wages. What's our current wage total? £180m? So if we net positive for the last period of 24/25, that does indeed leave a lot of room for growth and investment in the squad. Bruno's the top earner at £10m a year, so a £50m player will eat £20m of the SCC stuff meaning we could, in theory, buy 5 x £50m players and still be under the cap. That said, I'm not a financial expert....
We won't sign anyone We are **** at signing players, dunno how we negotiate tbh, but it doesn't work that's for sure
Don't disagree, just think there is sometimes a benefit to a short term fix that's say £5m instead of jumping on a £20-25m mistake just because you are desperate - yes they may cost you £1 or 2m more this year instead amortized over 5 years but you fix a problem here and now and then maybe have to look a little harder to find a better deal later but still have time to do so. Think that's the exact view Villa have taken - they may not want Diasi and Rashford long term but with Duran and Diego Carlos gone - they needed a body to come in and do a job this season. If we'd got a RW on loan I'd have been very pleased but it was still a decent window for us imho.
I'm only interested in long-term gains, and it appears that is the approach that's being taken by the club. Anything you do now will impact the ability to do something potentially better a little further downstream. I don't want to end up with a side that's been slapped together in a rush.
