Just can't see the sense in Longy being sold, he is literally the only homegrown player we have over 21 who needs registering for Europe. Without him we can only register 21 players for the CL. Him and Miley (who doesn't need to be registered anyway) are effectively free registrations for Europe.
Yeah, wouldn't surprise me if Eddie veto's the Leeds deal at the last minute and gives Longstaff a new contract like he did with Dubravka
Since we are signing Elanga I am more secure in just saying I am not too arsed if we sign DCL for relatively cheap. My fear would have been if we **** the bed and signed DCL as our "marquee" signing and pretended he was a world beater. We need a replacement for Wilson on our injury table after all.
Hope so personally, unless of course there is a gem in the U21's I'm not thinking of coming through the ranks who can take his place? "As a minimum, eight of those 25 places are reserved exclusively for 'locally trained players(**)' and no club may have more than four 'association-trained players(*)' listed among those eight places" - https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsl...gue-league-phase-squads-player-registration-/ List A players: 1 Pope (*) 2 Dubravka/new GK 3 Trippier (*) 4 Tino (*) 5 Schar 6 Botman 7 Burn (*) 8 "CB" 9 Hall (*) 10 Target (*) 11 Bruno 12 Tonali 13 Joelinton 14 Willock (*) 15 Longstaff (**) 16 (Miley** - Doesn't Need Registering) 17 Murphy (*) 18 Elanga 19 Gordon (*) 20 Barnes (*) 21 Isak 22 Osula 23 Must be homegrown 24 Must be homegrown 25 Must be homegrown All of Ruddy, Gillespie, Odysseas, Ashby, Krafth, Lascelles, Hayden and anyone else over the age of 21 - bar one - have to be left out the squad regardless of Longy being sold (if we sign a CB) and if Longy goes we end up with one more spot (a 21 man squad) that can't be registered.
Gives the youngsters a bit of a chance I guess. Neave, Sanusi, Harrison, Murphy, Shahar, etc. But you know Howe will register at least 3 goalkeepers, so that's another spot taken up from your list.
The good thing is with Keepers is you only have to register 2 and can change them at any time if they injured so he has no excuses for registering more than 2. Would love to know if this is a conversation being held in the corridors of power at the club re. squad limits for Europe. We struggled last CL campaign and giving up effectively free spots in the squad just seems wild.
Don a bit more looking and it's not quite that simple but: "If a club cannot count on the services of at least two goalkeepers registered on List A because of long-term injury or illness (i.e. one that lasts 30 days), a club can temporarily replace him at any time during the season."
I understand this position, but the way I see it, I don't want to be subbing Sean on against Real Madrid based on his performances when subbed on this season. I would rather use Miley or chance our arms with Alfie Harrison who had a good 2nd half of the season in the U21's. If we're not going to use him, then he's still effectively an unused squad place so may as well get some recompense in from Leeds
Isn't his injury record way overblown? Yeah his goalscoring record isnt great but he's not going to be starting many matches
Partly overblown yeah. I think it's more the lack of goals/assist, but then Everton have played a horrible style in recent years.
This is true, but in that style he's still getting chances. They are just not going in the net. I don't think Beto is an overly good player and DCL could not get in the team ahead of him, even when fit. This screams a player that is not to the level we would require if Isak is injured. I just feel that a young player to compete with Osula is a better bet. Woltemade still hasn't left to Bayern yet. Imagine a striker line-up of Isak, Osula and Woltemade. So many options and different ways of playing there.
Agree we don't want him coming on vs Madrid but that's not really the scenario is it as that'll be the starting XI and maybe 5-10 mins at the end? It's more the PSV's, Copenhagen's, Celtic's, Marseille's etc. - not sure they are they types of games you blood youth players with zero senior experience. Would much rather Longstaff in there who's scored vs PSG, scored big penalties last season, pretty consistent etc. Not saying he'd even start, maybe be the first sub I'd bring on in those types of games but certainly he's got to be ahead of Harrison, Hernes etc against the pot 3/4 teams we'll be playing against or in the cups vs lower EPL teams/top championship clubs.
This makes sense, but how about this squad list as an alternative List A for UEFA: List A players: 1 Pope * 2 James Trafford * 3 Trippier * 4 Livramento * 5 Schar 6 Botman 7 Burn * 8 Giorgio Scalvini 9 Hall * 10 Bruno 11 Tonali 12 Joelinton 13 Willock * 14 Harvey Elliot * 15 Murphy * 16 Elanga * 17 Gordon * 18 Barnes * 19 Isak 20 Osula 21 Nick Woltemade 22 UEFA says No 23 UEFA says No 24 UEFA says No 25 UEFA says No Longstaff and Targett have been removed from the squad (Tino, Tripps & Burn can cover LB). We have 3 strikers, 3 midfielders to cover our main 3 (Miley on List B) and £10M in our pocket to help signing the blue lads...
Have to play the kids at some stage. If not against the pot 3 or 4 teams, then when? Problem today is no one is willing to give kids a chance and people just want the finished article. If we are getting them then we should play them.
I don't dislike him mate - not by a long shot. Was just joking. Wish him all the best and think he'll be a steady player for you. With a good run if games hes useful, but can't come on and positively impact games for us.
And by heaven, it's not the only thing you don't know. Edit. Wish I'd read the next 2 posts before posting.
