I just decided to question your suggestion that Elanga is at peak value. He likely isn't. Your point as a whole assumes that the media reports are accurate and that you know better than Howe, the scouts and recruitment team. However daft that is, you're welcome to your opinion . My own personal preference would be to bring in both Adayemi and Vlahovic for the same price (in transfer fees at least) as Elanga on his own is likely to cost. Shame about the wages (Vlahovic). However, I still trust the judgement of the manager and transfer team that have barely put a foot wrong, and won't be griping about it if we do sign Elanga.
Howe + scouts + recruitment team + exec team = no first team players for three transfer windows and into a fourth. I get we don’t know everything but regardless of any other factors the performance for two years and counting has been ****ing abysmal.
I don’t know better than Howe. But I do think Elangas value right now is peak and we would be mental to pay 55m for him.
It's not abysmal as it's a direct consequence of our having chosen to frontload the investment in preceding windows - a strategy that kept us in the PL, then got us into the CL for the first time since SBR, and has now seen us finally win a cup and then get into the CL again. Over all of the transfer windows combined in the PSR cycle, we have spent as much as we could within those rules and the vast majority of the first team signings made have been an overwhelming success.
Yep. The illegal rules, designed by desperate clubs purely to protect themselves and to hinder us. Oh and the "other factors" include Ashworth and Mitchell. But hey let's just blame Howe for World War 3. We will get there. It will just take time. But the taste of tears will be worth the wait.
So, you think he's reached his ceiling at 23, don't think he's likely to improve under Howe, and believe he won't gain any value from CL exposure? Again, I stress that I would probably be happier with other options. I just think his value is likely to go up further if we do sign him.
He has the potential to be a genuine Toon fan favourite. But if Forest play silly buggers over the price - which they are entitled to, like us with our own top players - then we should just move on to someone else instead.
I think it's quite funny that we suggest that Isak, Bruno, Gordon, Tonali should all command fees of £80m - £150m (or more), but then expect other clubs to give us their best players for less than £40m - £50m.
It's the ideal approach and when some see the money they'll take it. Newcastle will more than likely have an idea who's available for what, so my guess is another player is available for not much more than 45 million.
