If we sign a new keeper I'm pretty sure I can edit the poll to add a new choice and give the option to change votes . I don't have enough spare time to start a brand new one .
I'm sticking with Krul for reasons of continuity and his understanding with the back four. Fahrmann will get a good amount of game time over the season though once he settles in.
I think Krul deserves to start and his bond and marshalling of the youth players was priceless last season. I don't think Ralph speaks much English so he will need to use Zimmo as translator. Competition in all positions has to be a positive.
It's Krul's shirt to lose, but if Fahrmann blows him away in pre-season then I've no issue with him starting against Liverpool. Surprised he used a translator for his first interview, but I'd imagine the "football English" vocabulary needed is much more limited and easy to learn.
To some extent Fahrmann is starting off having not played much in the previous season, much like Krul did last season when he showed the effects of that in the early games. Now he's coming off a full season and full of confidence. Fahrmann does have almost a full pre-season to get ready, so it should be interesting.
My guess is that we'll play a whole different team in each half, so both keepers will have a chance to shine, and all the others as well.
That Fahrmann video reminds me of Krul in his prime. The fact that Fahrmann surrendered his crown last season indicates that he hasn't maintained that level either, but as far as I know he hasn't suffered the sort of performance-inhibiting injury that both Krul and Ruddy experienced. I'd expect the season to start with TK in goal, but Fahrmann to replace him at some later point and lay claim to the No.1 shirt.
Think it would be harsh to just drop Krul. He made a huge contribution last season and most of his errors were due to his playing style that itself helped the rest of the team.
I'm sure TK isn't going to be "just dropped"; what I think is that, as the season progresses, his weaknesses will be exploited in the EPL far more than they were last season. His tendency to parry the ball forward back into play, rather than decisively to one side, for example; that's down to mistiming (in this case, being too quick to the ball). Judging by the video, Fahrmann's timing is spot on in those circumstances. Also, last season TK was peculiarly vulnerable to shots struck from distance; again judging by the video, Fahrmann in contrast looks very assured. All speculation though, since we don't know what has led to Fahrmann surrendering the No 1 spot at Schalke.
Fahrmann looks to be incredibly quick off his line for one on one situations, and seems to have the back of saving shots with his feet much like De Gea
Yes he does. But one really needs to see a video of "!00 goals Ralf Fahrmann didn't stop" to put those saves into some sort of perspective!
