    longer term purchase Valirx £2000+ for 1,000,000 shares! every .0001p increase is £100, currently about 0.0025p
    you also catch a cold ! BLINX 8000 shares 2 lots at £1. 12p and 37.6p currently worth half the money I paid.....
    then you get the flu Lithographic went bust lost all of it
    or worse still ebola.... shares are sold when you are losing more than half your money because a private equity steps in and buys them compulsairily .... ARC

    ARC that's back about 25 years now JGF, before Lord Hanson decided to rip it apart. All off the main players back then have moved on.
    ARC = Hanson
    Pioneer = Hanson as well
    Topmix = Tarmac then half sold off to Hope the other half to merge with Lafarge to become Lafarge Tarmac soon to become Tarmac Group
    RMC = Cemex
    We are just construction inbreds now :(
    But when you made that deal back then you was in your 70's <laugh>

    JGF Jammy Gold Fingers. I don't like gambling but when I do I go in big. Once had a bundle on a horse called Salmon Spray which was unbeatable at 5 to 2 on and won by a nose. Never backed a horse since. But t have in each of the last 10 years used up my CGT allowance. Nice feeling but never invest more than you can afford to lose

    Ok my mistake ARC was also the name of the ready mixed concrete and aggregates supplier that Hanson bought out.

    Here's a little puzzle for your head, what's the answer to this sum image.jpg

    It's 30.

    You are not reading the sum properly, there is no plus sign between row 1, row 2 and row 3 meaning that they ain't 1 but they are actually 11.

    Because anything x 0 is zero that multiply does not count.

    4 + 11 + 3 + 11 + 0 + 1 = 30

    Multiplication by 0, 1 and 2
    In the next several lessons we will learn the basic multiplication facts.
    Multiplying by 0
    Any number multiplied by 0 equals 0.
    Multiplying by 1
    Any number multiplied by 1 equals that number.
    Multiplying by 2

    Just because your wrong, stop trying to bluff your way out please.

    PEMDAS says that there is a pecking order to mathematical operators, as follows:

    1. P - Parentheses first
    2. E - Exponents (ie Powers and Square Roots, etc.)
    3. MD - Multiplication and Division (left-to-right)
    4. AS - Addition and Subtraction (left-to-right)

    In the example multiplication takes a higher priority than addition

    Therefore, 1 x 0 = 0
    And the rest just becomes a sum, of 1 + 1 with some 11 in it

    To me the answer is 11. One has to go back to school when I believe with a sum there were several rows and the total line had an equals sign alongside. So we have two rows of 5 and the third row is 0+1. So its 5+5+1=11. Somebody please give the right answer

    My heads hurting now in that you are viewing this equation as one continuous line . Having said that to me the X 0 means the preceding cumulative total so its back to one again for me. But there again a long time since O level Maths

    Im confused now too you nobber ROD, why is it not 31?

    30 x 0 = 30 does it not plus 1? if its 30 x 0 = 0 than its 1 (isn't it?? I'm **** at maths)

    This is all about how one mathematically writes an equation/formula. I have written it in Excel i.e. where one has to "nest" the various elements of the formula and the answer is 30.
    So its a trick question i.e. one with lots of possible "interpretations" for the non mathematician
    =((1+1+1+1+11+1+1+1+11+1*0)+1)

    the answer is derived by the facts stated any number x 0 is 0

    Pemdas is order for algorythyms and equations etc... ! ( 1x0) means you apply first.. no powers so then multiply, apply rule Any number multiplied by 0 equals 0.
    and then you have it ?

    If I had 30 stones in a pile and times them by nothing I would still be left with 30 stones, thats a fact not a matter of opinion!
