Early means no stress and you can spread the cost if you have to. I also hate wrapping presents, so like to do them a couple at a time, then stop at the point you lose the battle with the sellotape.

BBC4 currently showing a tribute to 10cc. Probably the most experimental pop band ever, and I include my beloved XTC in that crowd. I might have every XTC album, but I do have two 10cc albums as well. My hat is well and truly tipped to them.

I was in Oxford Street once near Xmas....though I must point out I was going elsewhere. It was hell...the queue near Hamley's was so big they had cordoned off part of the street and people were standing in the road. I'm breaking out in a sweat thinking about it. Run for the hills, Grimlock. I will light a candle for you.

I was astounded to find out that Graham Gouldman wrote several Hollies hits when he was in his teens, and Eric Stewart was already a pop star in the mid-sixties. Kevin Godley and Lol Creme were friends who were just a little more off-beat than the other two, which perhaps answers the question of why they wanted to split eventually. Gouldman/Stewart went on to pen further classics while Godley/Creme pretty much invented the sophisticated pop video, as well as occasionally producing their own music. They weren't as prolific apart as they were together but the quality was still high. Just remember these are sophisticated singles, not album tracks: G/S/G G/C
