We spent last night in the Kings arms in Paul Cornwall last night . Pub is opposite church . 40 years ago today the crew of the lifeboat The Soloman Browne lost their lives trying to save the crew of the Union Star . Sadly all involved lost their lives including the pregnant wife of the union star captain and her 2 two young daughters .
Several of the Penlee lifeboat crew were from the same family, from Mousehole. Absolute heroes, all of them, as were the crew of the Air Sea Rescue helicopter who risked their lives trying to help, before the appalling weather forced them to give up.
And ****ing morons stop them going out in the channel to try and save refugees ….. fair makes my blood boil …. When I was a teenager, we dived into Weymouth to take shelter from a massive storm which had hit the channel. As we came in (it was just getting dark), the lifeboat was going out ….. they were out all night ….. volunteers all of them. I’ve just increased my monthly donation to the RNLI
The four stages of life: 1. You believe in Santa 2. You don't believe in Santa 3. You pretend to be Santa 4. You look like Santa
im not sure they were from the same family . The man in charge tried to make sure that didn’t happen .
No you’re right, my apologies. I think the son of one of the crewmen turned up but the coxswain wouldn’t let him on board.
No need to apologise ! As it happens the son that wasn’t allowed on that fateful mission , became coxswain of the new lifeboat based in Newlyn ! It’s all in the link of the tragedy I posted .
