Now you've confused me again Fran. A merkin is a pubic wig yes? how does that make women look younger?

Bless. Things become less luxurious with age.....in the same way a man wears a toupee to look younger.

Advice from some please... thinking of a short trip abroad in the Autumn, not sure where to go. Will only be a 3/4 day break and don't want anywhere too expensive. Worth bearing in mind I'll most likely be going alone too <ok>

Was thinking maybe NY, but might be a bit much money and is too much flying time compared to time there, would I be right in saying 3 days wouldn't be enough time either? Also maybe Morocco, not sure how much there is to do there though so anyone who's been advice would be appreciated :)

Failing any of that... decent trips in Europe please :)

Islands.! Crete, Malta, Lampadusa, Sardinia, Corsica, Sicily, etc... Choose one and hire a car or motorbike. Why do I like that idea. Because I'd love to do that right now. ;)

I thought they just changed colour.!?!

Oh well, at least it saves on the lady gardening [as Graham Norton calls it] or the mandscaping [for blokes]. ;)

Dear TLL have you ever considered Serbia? of course not, it's a country of murderous fanatics (the media says). I've lived here for 12 years in the town of Novi Sad. On the Danube. Google it. Great restaurants, clubs, theaters. Beer a pound a pint. Cigs 2 pound a packet. Only beautiful girls walking past as you sip your cheap beer / wine in the square. Serbia scary? well my parents (in their 80s from Southampton) come every year because they can come to the city centre and feel safe. 5 star hotel 50 pound a night. My daughter and granddaughter came last year again. My brother and his wife are coming here again this summer. I should be employed by the Serbian Turist Agency! and I'd pick you up from Belgrade airport. Google Novi Sad! (or ask Dusan Tadic)

While that does sound pretty cool, not really what I'm looking for this time, looking for somewhere cultural, with a bit of history but some decent drinking spots too.

Interesting that you mention that as I was thinking about going somewhere like Croatia/Serbia etc. though obviously I was looking at the capitals. Is Belgrade nearest airport to there then? I see it's almost 100km away?

Blimey, you don't get much more historic and cultural than Mediterranean Islands. :) Sicily would probably be best for it though. Loaded with the stuff. And packed with nightspots. But they all are anyway.

Excuse my ignorance but is Crete a Greek island? That might interest me.

Yep, the biggest one. Loads of history from WWII [watch the film, Ill Met By Moonlight]. Greeks love the British [don't know about post-Brexit though] and get preferential dining tables over Germans [honest, and it's a bit naughty, but it's true]. Crete is absolutely beautiful. Definitely hire car or bike place.

Belgrade is about 80 km away (an hours drive) 50 pound by taxi. Prices are different here! 25 pound if I pick you up!

Apparently Bill Murray travelled by train overnight just to get a tour of Prague, and then was back in his Berlin hotel for film media work the following morning. He said it was nice.

Budapest in Hungary is a beautiful city with some wonderful buildings along both sides of the Danube. Wonderful when lit up at night. People were nice and friendly and obviously loved their city. A poignant sight to see is a mass of beautifully crafted bronze shoes on the dock which commemorates the Jews who had to remove their shoes before being shot and thrown into the river. As our guide told us, 'We don't think of them as murdered Jews, but as murdered Hungarians'. I thought that was beautifully put.

I thought that, but I don't have your gift for dry humour. <laugh>

I was going to suggest the Maldives, but by the time you get there it's time to come back.

Okay you got me there! Basically, New York is where I *really* want to go but deep down I know it's to much money and I'd imagine you need a lot longer than a few days there, so looking for somewhere a bit cheaper and more practical (shorter flight times for short break) <ok>
