It used to be an entertaining sport, I don't really see any future now.

I must admit that hot-air balloons would be where my fear of heights would kick in. It's trusting the technology. I quite understand the concept of the hot-air balloon and, for me, it isn't sufficiently safe enough to overcome my somewhat irrational fear of heights. One could say my irrational fear becomes rational. Add a parachute, as a back-up measure of safety, and we could be talking. But probably not.

Hopefully, this isn't inappropriate to introduce a lighter idea for a balloon attempt. Playing an LP from high altitude, dangling from a balloon:

What's this chaps.? F1 finally managing to do what it has been desperately attempting to do for 20 years or more.? That is, bore the pants off even extremely loyal fans.?

Bearing in mind I watched the sport for 25 years until I couldn't stand it any longer.

Mrs Q remains bizarrely a fan, even though she doesn't really care about any other sports. Fact that pretty much all the top competitors are totally unlikeable probably doesn't help either.

Indeed. One of the first rules of making a sport attractive to an audience is to get people to care about the outcome. I think there are a huge number of watchers who are on the point of not doing so. Significantly, after getting the huge promotion for the past how-many years, CH4 is now the terrestrial UK broadcaster. F1 is going back to its niche zone.

OK, that was my sarcasm. My apologies, Jasper.

Of course they don't try, but they manage it. When I gave up watching it was because the cars had very little to do with cars anymore, save for having 5 wheels. They are far too wide and too fast for the tracks, too hi-tech, have too much/any down-force, and are far too costly. The balloon tyres are too big, have way too much grip, and there is far too much reliance of what goes on in the pits. They should have a far more restricted pit to car communication system, for example data logging, plus emergency messages only [get out of the vehicle your wheel is about the fall off].

In short, it they were cars, but having the same restrictions as MotoGP bikes, they'd be far more entertaining. Might even get some regular overtaking, which is what racing is supposed to be about.

Do you know that MotoGP bikes have had wings for the first time in decades this season, to help keep them on the road.? They work too. They've been banned from next season.
