Same thing here. My girls wanted to pay for a trip over for me for Xmas pressie but doing a weekender over here instead in a decent hotel. Couldn't be arsed watching that lot at present. Sad I know
Sorry fella, but ive just seen his exploits for far to many years down in the lower leagues, well before my lot fell out with him. He is a character and a complete and utter wind bag, nothing wrong with that in itself, until things don't go too well in the dressing room. Very controversial i will give him that. You can be sure of a few touchline bust ups along the way lol. Started out with tax irregularities, before going to Crawley and many questions from myself at the time where were they getting all their money from (overseas?)! Then the bottom fell out of that, which then saw him desert the sinking ship to Rotherham, where he came second when we won the league and then was more successful than us in getting them to the Championship, so credit for that. Both Crawley and Rotherham were going through phases of change during his arrival, financial investment and new grounds, so as long has you also have the finances maybe you will get along just fine, he certainly has the mentality for the challenge.
Fair enough BRB, you know your stuff. Like I say, I don't get into the politics of the club. I'm just a southern Irish supporter,.
Just as a sense of humour before i disappear, ive found an old article i read back at the time regarding the controversy he caused at the Gills, worth a read even if just for a wry smile; http://www.spiked-online.com/newsite/article/fat-scottish-****er-its-just-banter/14923#.VlHxUNLhDs0 Not sure if that link is working ^^^ or whether its redirecting to the recent Paris article. Bloody cookies I'll copy & paste instead; What’s the world coming to when you can’t insult a Scotsman without fear of being hauled before the beak? This isn’t a dystopian nightmare; it’s the reality of thin-skinned Britain in 2014. On Saturday 5 April, three Gillingham fans were arrested on suspicion of a ‘racially aggravated public-order offence’ after reportedly callingRotherham manager Steve Evans a ‘fat Scottish ****er’ – or words to that effect. If the Gills fans are convicted, our society will have slid a little further down the slippery slope of intolerance. Should it be a crime to call someone a ‘fat Scottish ****er’? I don’t believe it should. I’d hope that Scots wouldn’t get their knickers in a twist over a bit of name-calling. However, while the phrase clearly isn’t a term of endearment, I can’t see how it is racist. Forget the dewy-eyed tosh of Braveheart; the truth is that the Scots are not an oppressed people. They’re not regarded as foreigners. They’re not treated as second-class citizens. They do not suffer employment discrimination. The ‘No Irish, no blacks’ signs that were once displayed by British landlords never applied to the Scots. Consequently, to call someone a ‘fat Scottish ****er’ isn’t an expression of xenophobic hostility, unlike racial insults such as ‘******’ or ‘paki’. It doesn’t reinforce the message that Scots ‘don’t belong here’. It’s just an insult. It’s no more racist than calling the Welsh ‘sheep shaggers’ or Scousers ‘hubcap thieves’. They won’t win prizes for wit or ingenuity, but many terrace taunts trade on regional stereotypes. In the context of a football stadium, these taunts are just ‘banter’. The insults are made in jest. Does anyone seriously believe in these stereotypes? I doubt it. Equally, I can’t imagine many fans on the receiving end are actually upset by the jibes. The problem with contemporary anti-racism is that this once-progressive struggle for equal rights has degenerated into a reactionary purge of inappropriate language. Little wonder that insulting other nationalities, regardless of whether they suffer discrimination, is now seen as racism. If insulting a Scotsman is deemed to be racist, one wonders what the language police will outlaw next. Will it be a crime to abuse footballers with ginger hair? Will football fans be nicked for perpetuating regional stereotypes? Will fans be prosecuted for referring to opposition fans as pikeys, inbreds or dole scroungers? You may laugh, but that is precisely what’s happening in Italy. Last summer, the Italian football federation (FIGC) introduced tough new sanctions to punish ‘territorial discrimination’ – insults aimed at fans from other regions of Italy. Both Juventus and Milan have been hit with partial stadium closures as punishment for anti-Neapolitan chants.
Easy to say when you are able to pop over five or six times a year and have a proper piss up. Slightly harder when you are giving up every weekend following the team home and away and getting nothing back. We all have to make choices I have decided to save some cash, move house and do something else until Cellino flecks off. Will go to an odd game but that's more about having a catch up with old friends than what's going on on the pitch. #disillusionedwithir
Not easy Glory..its bloody hard to get over and I've been doing it before Ryanair.......can't see you doing the same if you were a Bohs fan. Probably spend more than you and the locals...........not going to get into this, but aren't you lucky to be able to drive, train, bus or get a lift to ER..well done.
It's not just the money.... It's the time. Tied up for 23 home league games, approx 10 away games. It ends up all we ever did and it wasn't worth it as I stopped enjoying it. We had two decent games last season, four the year before and not one so far this.... Not getting into who is the biggest fan, I just want to reprioritise. If you want to go every week You might want to move back to Yorkshire....
Never said who is the biggest fan. Just sick and tired of being belittled because you happen to live close to the ground. and obviously get to more games..
And if I had done that you would have a point. But it was you who said if you lived where I live you would go to every game. I would suggest reading the thread back. I apologise when I have done something wrong but I will be fecked if it's happening when I haven't.
Not asking for apologies, not reading back.........why are you such an argumentative bollox Goodnight...before I say anything I may regret
Good night. But in this case most unusually I think it's you who started the argument. Let's just agree to disagree...
Speaking as a fat Scottish ****er myself, I can't understand why he got so upset about it. It appears to be an accurate statement, unless he's suggesting that he's not Scottish!
I said goodnight to him didn't say I was off. I am either having a really bad day or he misread my posts..
