So, three behind-closed-doors fixtures in less than a week as preparations continue for the new season (a.k.a.slog) that begins just three (3) weeks from today. Any build-up, team news, breaches of Covid regulations etc will appear on this one thread, So, all the info so far is: Mon Aug 24 - SC Verl (A) Weds, Aug 26 - Dynamo Dresden (A) Sat, Aug 29 - SV Darmstadt (A) "Inhalt zu folgen", as they traditionally say.
We'll soon have some idea of who might be going or staying I suppose. Lewis, Godfrey and Cantwell didn't play against MK Dons but Aarons did - no reason was given. It may be nothing, but we may soon find out.
This is like the hush in the NASA control room as they wait for the space capsule to emerge from the blind side of some distant planet ......
2 now, Idah scores. Apparently we're set up as a 4-2-3-1, with Skipp and McLean as the pairing, Dowell as CAM. Probably what was expected from the lineup.
Looks like a good run-out for the squad, and no unexplained absences to fuel transfer speculation. Do we know if Drmic, Trybull, Leitner travelled with the squad? Other than Lewis, Aarons, Byram, Hanley with justified absences, has anyone else missed out? Edit: not sure we've seen Sitti yet, and it's odd for Tettey to play CB if Famewo travelled.
Leitner was said last week to still be in post-op rehab in Munich while his agent busies himself finding him a new club. Re. Byram, I thought I saw him among the players disembarking from the bus before this afternoon's match. No?
Again according to Davitt on Trybull, Leitner, and Drmic To my knowledge none of that first team trio you mention are here either. Which says everything in terms of where they are heading and where the club are heading going into the new season
Yeah he travelled, but isn't fit. Presumably he's there more for the team-building aspects and tactical sessions.
I know it's only pre-season but these two wins must be a lift after the dreary end to last season. The clinical finishing will bring back confidence, as will the performances of the new players, in particular Placheta, Dowell and Sinari, not to mention Josh Martin's brace. Then there's the two clean sheets to bolster defensive confidence. A very good start so far. The Wednesday match is going to be streamed by the German side, so we should be able to see for ourselves, including a first glimpse of Hugill perhaps. EDIT: I should have included Adam Idah in the praise after he scored in both games. His call up to the RoI senior squad at 19 is another indication of his rapid progress.
