Refs To Wear Bodycams In Fa Abuse Trial By JEREMY ARMSTRONG AMATEUR referees will wear bodycams amid increasing concerns about the levels of violence and abuse in English football. Andy Ambler, the FA’s director of game relations, yesterday revealed a trial with 150 officials, which could start next week. He said: “It is another tool to tackle abuse. We need people to participate in the games by refereeing.” Anyone found guilty of assaulting referees faces a mandatory 10-year FA ban. The new trial comes after a Radio 5 Live poll found almost all refs had been verbally abused and 293 physically abused. Refs’ Association chief Paul Field said: “One day in this country a referee will lose his or her life.” The FA said it is “determined to tackle this issue”.

No suggestion of using bodycams in the professional game though? While there's not much chance of a referee being assaulted at professional level there is certainly abuse but the FA don't seem to be so determined to tackle that issue. Maybe they don't want the game they are responsible for to be seen for what it is in this country. And a ten year ban for assaulting a ref? Jeez, they shouldn't be allowed to play again if they assault anyone let alone a referee.
