The "Western World" didn't award Qatar the WC, a corrupt (proven) organisation called FIFA did.

Of course it is a disgrace that it is held in Qatar, not just because of their values but because they bribed officials to ensure it would be.

But the fact is it happened, and as a fan I would rather England take part than boycott. It is too late now either way. The answer is not to boycott, but to dismantle and replace the cause of all this... FIFA. Instead we let them investigate their own scandal... guess what they found.

    Fair enough.

i was wondering whether you were going to the match on Sunday ? Is there any difference between paying to watch Newcastle and going to Qatar ?

How far would you draw the line when it comes to boycotting a football team or match ?

Personally don't feel lumbered with this world cup at all. In fact, this will very much be the first WC I have a cursory interest only and wont make much effort to watch . Its an apex of corrupt wasteful bullshit that will 100% prove to be an awful idea IMO.

You're on shaky ground now Ian and starting to sound like an apologist. There is no hypocritical comparison to be made between the Newcastle football team recently acquired by a Saudi group and the Qatar WC.

Whataboutism. You're usually more well reasoned than this.

A Hereford and football legend. A shame as I'm sure he would have been watching as Hereford have a big FA cup game this Friday against Pompey. A Hereford win would be even sweeter now as a fitting tribute.

Oh so gay people are just imprisoned for 3 years or deported, well that's fine then.

And you question importing western values? Well if their values include intolerance, homophobia, bigotry and misogyny, then I say let us import western values because theirs are clearly ****. And I don't think **** cultural values should be given a pass just because it's part of some backwards culture. FGM is part of some cultures but it is an aberration that should be condemned, however many bigots with a medieval mindset it upsets. Plus I don't think tolerance is an inherently western value, but a human value. If some places lack basic human values, then we should not pander to them nor be afraid to call them out due to fear of causing offence

Thanks. I admit my hypocrisy though as I intend to watch the world cup... BUT I will be using dodgy streams so they won't contribute to the viewing figures and I'm also not too thrilled about it, but in my opinion international football is the only form of football that isn't a joke. Plus, I like multinational sporting events, it's fostering international relations in a way that is positive and doesn't involve guns and missiles.

Would really like them ****s to go out before the 3rd round this year tbh. Definitely not the season to be playing them imo.

Nah, I'd like them to come to St Mary's so we can put them back in their place after they claimed their win over our B team was a proper derby.

An FA Cup derby at St Mary's would be awful currently with them getting the whole Northam and block 1 being empty.

We've got bragging rights anyway and they can sit on that 0-4 a bit longer.

Plus they'd probably give us a tough game and not sure I'd fancy us tbh.

We wouldn't have needed to as we already have actual bragging rights :)

And I was at Fratton for the HC tie.
