Impossible for me. If it's a pen you can hardly book an attacker for simulation as that has to be punished with an indirect free kick against the attacking team. If simulation is an offence according to the rules then a free kick has to be awarded as it's something that happens whilst the ball is in play.
I agree that it's impossible under the current laws. I agree that it would be an indirect free kick under the current laws.
But it makes no sense to book someone for diving while also giving the same side a penalty. It's like rewarding cheating.
The fact Var never even looked at that one was terrible…….Huddersfield fans quite rightly can be pissed off there.
I'm not sure how booking someone is rewarding them? It still needs to be a foul in order to be a penalty. I'm not suggesting that all simulation should be rewarded with a penalty. I'm suggesting that simulation should be punished, and fouls should be punished, and that some incidents fall into both categories. Defender and attacker have both committed an offence, so punish both of them not just one. But instead, football treats all incidents as black and white: either it's a foul or a simulation; it's apparently impossible to be both... No way can I be persuaded that the contact alone made the Huddersfield player fall like that, so he deserved a yellow, but I don't see why the rules should be written so as to rule it out from being a penalty too. (If you have to only punish one, then punish the attacker and let the defender get away with it. Which is just what Moss did. But personally I'd prefer both were punished.) But anyway, it'll never happen, so it's a pointless argument.
I want Huddersfield too. It’s closer than Nottingham and easier parking. Me, me, me, before anyone else says it. Will still aim to get to Forest if tickets are available. Will probably sell out as a new fixture.
Liverpool really had an open top bus parade today. To celebrate the FA & carabao cup. The day after losing the CL final. That is.. baffling to me
Not only that, but BBC Radio 5 Live had a reporter assigned specifically to report on the bus parade. More than baffling.
I thought the media fawning may be quieter now they bottled the quadruple. But nope, even when they fail they are still the media darlings. So bored of everything being about them. can’t believe klopp won PL manager of the season
I understand that the Liverpool fans refused to sng the national anthem at Wembley a fortnight ago for, amongst other reasons, some fans claimed they are not English but Scouse. Nice to be able to bae been put right regarding this and to recognise their special status. Given their unique position amongst all other cities in the British Isles, I suppose it would be curmudgeonly to deny their team to bus ride around the city - probably the safets way to do so without getting the wheels nicked. Curious to read of St Etienne fans rioting over the weekend following their relegation. Wonder if they consider whether the rot set in after they appointed Claude Puel?
They had 12 points in 17 matches when he was sacked, so he certainly did his part. Also, when he was sacked, the president of the club said: "To manage a team you need empathy. Claude is a brilliant coach but that isn’t enough". He has a near-unprecedented ability to alienate his players.
Trouble at my local team ADO Den Haag after they lost their promotion final. 3-0 up, 4-4 AET lost 7-8 on penalties. https://nltimes.nl/2022/05/30/riots-ado-den-haag-missed-promotion-four-cops-hurt
Imagine the headlines if that happened here. Yet it's English fans who are seen to be the worst in Europe and are treated like **** everywhere. Incredible.
Absolute disgrace. 'Fans' throwing flares directly into the players' tunnel. There won't be any serious punishment for the French FA though, because, well, UEFA is French. In fact, they'll probably get to host EURO '28. To be honest, fans are fans all over the world. There are idiots everywhere. The fault here, and with the Champs final, is solely with the (lack of) organisation of the police. They are so f*cking useless in France. I read it's the third major disturbance at this stadium alone this season. All just gets ignored outside of France, as like you say, it's not the English.
