Walker, Trippier, Maguire and White?? Two have recently.been injured, while two.have been out of form. Three 'Gers players should have been selected - Goldson, Tavernier and Kent. Southgate needs to.pick players who.are in form. It is rubbish from him yet again.
He's picked Bowen, Abraham, Tomori, Guehi. All of whom are in form. Rangers players won't get selected because they play in a **** league.
Yet these players in a **** league got their club to the Europa Cup Final. Very convenient of you not comment on the players I highlighted. As for Goldson, you would love to see him.in a Southampton shirt. I would, but it won't happen.
As Tom has pointed out, he has picked a fair few players due to form, JWP for example isn't included because he plays for a big club! But you need a certain degree of consistency. It would be bizarre to chop and change half the squad due to form. Players like Maguire for example haven been poor but he has always done well for England and is clearly going to be an important player for England long term
The fact is there as so many good English players playing in the top leagues in Europe it makes it very difficult for those playing in lesser leagues to get selected. I'm not saying they don't deserve a shot but that's the way it is.
This is a much better and more measured response to the previous one. Being a moderator this is an important asset to have.
Not sure what was wrong with my first response TBH. I was just a bit scathing of the quality of Scottish football.
I feel when discussing issues with people on this board, it is useful to respect a view that you may not hold, re Scottish football rather than diss it completely, There must be quality there otherwise Rangers would not have got to the Europa League final. Add to that a number of PL sides that want to sign players from SPL sides, so perhaps it is not quite fair to rubbish it in its entirety. Anyway your view is subjective so is mine but try to take a measured view a la Ian Thumwood, who while one may not entirely agree with what he says at times, he constructs his point very well and has a style that is brilliant and is a joy to read,
Rangers and Celtic do have good players I don't doubt that. We've signed excellent players from Celtic in the past. But England managers seem to be put off by the lack of quality opposition they come up against domestically.
Just answered my own question, it is for anyone who doesn't have BT or doesn't want to spend £6 a pint in the public house.
