If this lock down carries on in some form into the new year, I wonder if there is a scenario whereby this season could be completed in March-May 2021, with the 20-21 season not happening at all ?
None of the Foreign leagues have the £££££ at stake That the PL does . The season WILL go ahead as it's all about the £££££££££££££ . Am I the only one that gets that ?
You dont keep a deer that's in agony alive , just put another bullet inside it and ends its suffering That's how I see this season.
Jasper, I completely agree that it's all about the money. Do you think that there will (ever) be a tipping point, when the public backlash, or at least the fear of it, will make the owners of the clubs, the PL and media companies, think twice about carrying on?
Please could someone explain how completing the 90 or so Premier League games yet to be played, so that the clubs can collect their cash from Sky and BT, is worth putting at risk the lives of the 300 or so people that will have to be present for every single game? Not to mention the knock-on effect in the community if any of those people acquire the virus while present at a game?
L L&O . Nice idea but no . If it was ever going to happen , now would be the time IMHO , but they seem hell bent on finishing the season , If that right or wrong , does not even enter the discussion ( Amongst the REAL ) powers IMHO . My First love ( In sports ) is F1 , and just look at that FFS . It's all about the That goes for F1 ( Sod the lower series ) and The PL ( Sod L1 , L2 ) . Just my honest thoughts .
I wouldn't roast your brain cells trying to squeeze any logic out of it. You'll end up in a padded cell in a straight jacket with a padlock round it.
Has any pundit (aka ex-player, in the pay of the media people) tried trotting out the 'It (completing the PL) will lift the morale of the people' line? It may be a cynical viewpoint, and verging on political, but Boris getting Covid-19 may be the single most important factor in making 'influential' people realise that maybe it isn't all about the money. Well, I can dream...
I think we are all preaching the same message. Wonder if the officials will follow example of the Dutch, French and take the advice of FIFA doctors? They will. It will be difficult for the players to get motivated
How about a compromise? There is just under a quarter of the season still to play, so Sky/BT just withhold 25% of the dosh. Still a large sum lost to the clubs I agree, but better than actively killing people.
