Wow, what happened in Grimsby today? Was it actually raining in some parts of the UK?

Big lightning storm and a massive downpour. Torrential rain and the ref had to abandon it.

They showed pictures on Gillette soccer and the ref couldn't bounce the ball.

Football authorities need to take a long hard look at their rules and procedures to make sure clubs are run at a level they can afford to be run at.

Feel dead sad for Bury's supporters and staff, and to be honest for all of us English football club supporters as without the little guys like Bury FC there wont be a football league. We know how it feels to get damn close to going out of business, it must be grim being a Bury fan tonight. Hopefully Bolton Wanderers can sort themselves out or League 1 is going to be a bit short.

Nah they'll just carry on letting **** businessmen buying troubled clubs for a quid. Sadly Bury aren't a big enough club for anything to change.

    Very sad news.

I thought that Bury would get rescued at the eleventh hour but wonder if Bolton are kicked out too, how this will effect the way that the League is run in future. I can envisage a point where they are more willing to let long-established clubs fold and maybe this might be the starting point for the league to be thinned of less cost-effective clubs. There was a good article about 5 years ago in WSC which contrasted the fortunes of the "newer" league clubs from the south like Crawley who had been promoted in to the league and contrasted the way they were run with the more traditional, northern clubs were increasingly struggled to be viable or were poorly run.

It is a shame due to the fact that the people who are most affected by this are the fans who are the only people not really culpable in the whole sorry mess. The money from the Premier League should be spread more evenly around football and not let to accumulate with the larger clubs. However, I would also add that too many clubs seem to be run by directors whose intentions are not necessarily for the best or even incompetent. We have also seen this recently at Blackpool.

To be honest, I think that the community model promoted by Portsmouth is the solution for any clubs in the lower leagues, at least until there is more parity between the league.

They should be considered important enough though by the authorities... this week we could lose two of the original 8 (?) founding members of this wonderful thing we enjoy every week.

They both helped start the football league and one is gone, possibly two. Yes, dodgy businessmen, greedy owners, dodgy accounting, but Football needs to be ashamed that this can happen.

I doubt i’ll get many supporters for this, but it may be time for fixed budgets in the lower leagues.

Don't think Bury were founder members but I agree that they should care, I'm just saying that they won't. Far enough away from the dazzling lights of the PL to just ignore it after a week or so.

I think it's time that supporters trusts had stakes in the club/a seat on the board in the bottom 2 tiers.

Feel for Bury and their fans and staff, but one fan has just mentioned they have 3000 regular fans....how can a club be professional with such a small regular income.

**** the EFL and **** their fit and proper person's test. We know how **** that piece of trash is. With Bury it wasn't just a case of overspending but also the fact that the EFL allowed a known asset stripper with multiple liquidated businesses to his name to take over the club. While football is not regulated and owners are allowed to run clubs as their own personal fiefdoms with absolutely no accountability to anyone other than themselves, this will continue to happen. Club after club will end up in a dire straights, though maybe not all will ended up being expelled from the football league.
