So who do we want to win this then? We have both Wolves and Watford left to play, although Wolves is our very next game.
For me, Wolves are the better team. Who ever wins this cup game, still has to fight for 7th place to get the euro position, and with the Watford game on the 23rd it does not effect the fixture list for us. Maybe more of a distraction for Watford and disappointment for Wolves, so I'd say the Hornets.....but I think we are going to need to be on it to beat either of them! God, that was a ramble, sorry.
It makes it very useful that next weekend isn't a must-win for us. We can limp over the line from here if we want, meaning that a draw against Wolves is fine in my book. You do not, under any circumstances, want to be pushing an extra man or two forward to try and break Wolves down if the game is level. Leaving your backdoor open to Wolves is just inviting so much trouble. Be patient and try and find a way through. If not, take the draw. Don't push it.
Wolves might struggle to pick themselves up after this, if they lose now. Which would be useful for their next opponents.
Who is to say that Watford won't win the cup!!! Recall 1988 and Liverpool v Wimbledon [yuck} when Liverpool were near unbeatable! It could be the same story here, although I cam sure Watford have much more ability than the fooballing louts of Wimbledon back then. PS: Don;t Watford change their manager every 12 months. This is going to ruin the cycle.
We should be fine, but we should have won more games. We have been unlucky and unfairly treated. And I know the footy gods have a wicked sense of fun. We should be fine. Never boring mind! You have a tough job getting Sunderland now, they look strong. Barnsley are crumbling and there to be taken.
