Fair play ref. VVD clearly got the ball but studs showing, caught Napoli player in follow through. Definite yellow.
My understanding (and you're a referee so I'm asking) is that you can't tackle with your studs up even if you get the ball. Add to that VVD launched himself with his studs up, that must be very, very close to a red card.
A very similar force tackle from Shawcross that broke Ramsey’s leg, from memory. Don’t want to watch a replay. Initially I thought it was bullshit, upon replay I I thought it could have been a red.
You can't, that is correct. But studs up is not automatically a red card. Like a two footed tackle is also a not automatically a red card. The tackle has to be out of control, and/or use excessive force and/or endanger the safety of the opponent. I would say VVD's tackle comes under dangerous play which is a yellow card offence.
I've probably said this before but sometimes you judge those tackles differently in real life than on video. I don't know if it's the sound, or something to do with depth perception, but it feels different. Something else for the VAR gurus to work out.
But if he couldn't control his Goor following a "launch" and he did "launch," then isn't that out of control?
