Anyone else not really following the PL (outside of Saints), but following the championship more? I couldn't tell you how other teams in the PL are getting on. I assume its City or Liverpool at the top (boring), but I must admit I am really enjoying seeing West Brom top of the championship, Sunderland starting their season well and a few surprises as ever in the championship. Also Pompey struggling with the step up Just watching the football league highlights show, and I really do prefer that as a division and a spectacle. Superb stuff.
Looks like the transfer window, next summer, might be closing on 15th August, the day before the Premier League season kicks off. The Premier League and the major European leagues are aiming to come to an agreement for all windows to shut at the same time. Makes sense to me.
They did this before didnt they? I think the issue then was no other league did it so English clubs were moaning that a foreign team could unsettle one of their players when they couldn’t sell and replace them at the back end of August Makes sense if all the major leagues are on board with it. An immediate problem is that the Italian and Spanish leagues start a week or two later than the English league I think, and the football league starts a week earlier than the PL
To be fair though Pompey have played Leeds, Luton, Boro, Sunderland, West Brom and Burnley in their first 6 games that is hard for any Newly promoted side.
They tried to get it in this season but La Liga pulled out when Barcelona were going through a tough time financially, apparently. The report I read says that the major leagues are on board. “THE Premier League has joined ranks with Europe’s other top leagues to ensure that next summer’s transfer window closes before the season kicks off. Executives of the European Club Association (ECA), which represents clubs from England, Spain, Germany, Italy and France, are committed to agreeing a deadline day that will stop clubs from trading players once the new campaign has started. The plan is for the transfer window to close next year on August 15 – 24 hours before the start of the Premier League. It is hoped that pressure can be exerted on the rest of Europe to follow suit. A proposal to bring a uniform deadline day this summer collapsed when La Liga withdrew their support after coming under pressure from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are in a financial mess and needed time to raise funds to pay for new signings such as Dani Olmo. But the ECA now has a broad agreement in place to unify transfer deadline day across the continent.”
Sam Edozie playing for Anderlecht tonight. Not good enough for Saints but playing in Europe cup match.
Liverpool 5 West Ham !.. Looks like WHU caved in again!!!! I feel Lopetegui will be the first PL manager given his marchng orders. Southgate a replacement?
Che Adams: Torino and Scotland striker has no regrets after leaving Southampton - BBC Sport Love the positive attitude he has taken with him regarding the language, food and culture.
I think it's more accurate to say "not quite good enough yet to be playing for Saints, but good enough to play for Anderlecht".
