Polynesian people seem to suffer a lot of serious chronic health problems that means many don't make old bones. There was a documentary about the Marshall Islands and lots of them were having feet amputated at forty or so due to diabetes. Not sure if its genetic , diet related, or a combination of both.

That's horrible news. For such a beast on the pitch, he seemed such a lovely guy. What a player he was.

I think I once saw an article about their mortality rate and it did suggest a lot of it is diet related. I'm sure it said that a huge part of their diet was now lots of processed foods like corned beef. In addition to this lots of coconut milk/cream/oil which for something natural is chocked full of saturated fats is not too good for them.

    RIP Jonah

    Bah!

That's two relatively young sportsmen to have died in the last few days, they say these things happen in 'threes', let's hope on this occasion it doesn't happen :emoticon-0101-sadsm

Because it's a good source of protein, and tastes quite nice when you marinade it.

I love the taste of meat, but I don't eat it for environmental reasons.

Is that because of all those cows farting and destroying the ozone layer JK ? :emoticon-0136-giggl

Heh. Not specifically the cows farting, no. More the agricultural processes of the wider meat industry being one of the most detrimental industries to the environment overall. It's not limited to effects on climate change (although that is arguably the most important factor), but also water contamination & overuse, land degradation etc etc

To clarify, I don't feel the need to eat meat, and I like veggies, so I don't eat it. However, I don't chastise people that do eat meat.

Weren't you critising me on my bourgeois eating habits on the political thread? I believe it started with "Upon the revolution".

    Bah!

Do you honestly think my posts beginning 'Upon The Revolution' aren't tongue-in-cheek, GM?

Mmmm steaks! Pasta bake with bucket loads of mozarella and walkers on top tonight.
That is after one of the cats has had his annual boster injection and check up. I'll give him some tuna to make up for it when we get home!
(before anyone asks, no he doesn't play the piano!)

    Bah!

Haha... Ratko. my ginger tom, so named because of his enthusiastic ethnic cleansing of wildlife, deposited a foot long rat under the dining table yesterday. It was discovered, somewhat noisily, by the boy's gf just as we were about to sit down to roast chicken.

Had a very rare day off today as the GF has the week off. Surprised her, and whipped her off for a day in Bury. Lovely day, went to "Bills" for lunch. Had the "Duck Pie" was gorgeous, also had a side of their sweet potato fries. Perfect!
