Was the performance any good? It didn't sound like a particularly exciting 90 mins - I think we only had one shot on target and that was Monkhouse's goal?
I think overall it was a very even game. A bit too much long ball stuff from us, and their two central defenders were all over Cunnington and Taylor, who to be fair coped well. Neither side created many chances throughout, but our goal did come slightly against the run of play, but it was a good header from Monkhouse. We looked dangerous from set-pieces all night. Just after that we nearly scored from another corner but it went just wide, then somehow Wrexham failed to score from about two yards out when Mildenhall made an unfathomable save. It was by fair and away their best move of the night. I don't think there can be any complaints about the sending off, as the challenge was very high - probably the only thing the ref got right all night, which is starting to become a recurring theme. We still defended too deeply towards the end, meaning Clarke and Yates were going crazy (like me) in the technical area telling them to push up. They didn't have any clear chances though thanks mainly to Trotman, who was MOTM again with another immense performance. However, the sponsors give it to Sinclair which was in truth a scandalous decision when he was one of our least effective players on the night. It's starting to look tas if all he has to do is start the match and he'llget MOTM. Good win. Second half slightly better than the first.
Its a win but hang on look at the stats against 10 men. That said 3 points is 3 poinst and biy are these bloody well needed. No doubt Manager of the month will make usual statements. As another poster on here said "TBH we have been rubbish and should not be winning". Seems like we have a hell of a long way to go and promo this Season, NOT A CHANCE.
Very even game. Wrexham were marginally the better footballing side. Trotman was my MoM. Sinclair more influential than Clarke (the only change from Saturday). Standing on the Dribuild Terrace open end it fleetingly looked to me that their scrambled effort just crossed the line for a split second. As always when they went down to 10 we were under the cosh. We seem to get better results against the 'established' former league sides. We need to hammer the Nuneatons etc. A win....but no reason yet to put out the bunting!
my take on last night... i thought we did ok. it was always going to be tough after a defeat at braintree where the players in DC's own words gave up and were clueless. add the extra pressure of playing in front of our own fans. we didnt look like conceding although there were some squeeky bum moments, especially in the last 10 mins. remember also that playing against 10 men can be harder than playing against 11. we didnt play great but its a step in the right direction and we showed good character after saturdays shambles. also wrexham are on a high as they won every away game. we did ok. 4 games at home 3 wins 1 draw conceded just 1 goal. 10 points from 12. look at the teams we have played against at home.... grimsby: who are 1 of the favourites dover: immediately after the embarrassment of altrincham halifax: who at the time played 5 and won 5 who were top of the league wrexham: who won every away game so far this season not bad at all. we just got to be more positive away. winning game when not playing well is a good sign believe it or not.
