Of course one of the big problems is siting a new stadium. If H&F is not an option, would fans accept this and be willing to see the team move away from the borough if it were the only way to secure new premises? If so, how far out would be acceptable?
True mate. It all blew up in his face when they gave the job to that waster McCleish! If they could get 50k Oddball, why didn't they build a 50k? The rest of your post is good. Re the London Borough thing, that's evidenced by the fact that their main rivals are Palace. Is it a soul-less ground like the rest of the new ones?
If its not close to where we are now then we lose a lot of the pluses that we have for different uses, attracting 'floating fans'/ tourists etc - Westfield, Notting Hill and Kensington within easy reach, transport links etc. any further west we might as well ground share with Reading.
Good points. Don't get me wrong I'd love us to stay in H&F and I'll hate saying goodbye to Loftus Road with all it's memories. It just seems that every potential site mentioned in the borough so far comes with a massive "but" attached to it.
So which would you guys prefer? Norway's Jakobs Park: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Jakob-Park OR Oddball's Volkswagen Arena: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Arena
Like them both, but prefer Seats 63k which is a bit much. Move the stands in a bit closer to the pitch and make the roof retractable, Bob's your uncle. Been to one game there and a couple of corporate events - outstanding.
Brilliant SB. Now that's what I call a REAL Stadium. I've been in the HorseShoe in Ohio which is Colossal but a smaller version of Lucas Oil would be brilliant. Any other quality mid-sized Stadia from around the World?
Mates are all season ticket holders plans already to expand to 30k and it can do that but still they have under estimated demand and the common belief is that it will grow and grow towards 40K Brighton/Hove (actually) is a fast growing city no idea how big at moment maybe 250,000 ... doubled in 11 years ... take in the south coast either side and inland you are talking a lot of people and a lot of money. Season tickets are like gold dust and there is a waiting list of thousands .. plans are to bring it up to 30K are already submitted ...They used to play at the Withdean 6K capacity... I understand its all being done little by little. I firmly believe that will expand to 30K next season as its just filling in the corners for another 8K after all they can go up I am told for another 10/12K ... best they improve the station and car park as that again has been under estimated. Men running around in shorts in Brighton attracts a lot of viewers
I also firmly believe that QPR fans will make a racket what ever the new ground in but I fell asleep at the Emirates a couple of year back ... don't want that we need to be able to smell the players and bite their arses at throw ins
What's that song the opposition sing when playing Brighton? I was at the Withdean for a game of ours once. Leon Knight was their star striker. What an unbelievable dump that was. The Brighton fans had to suffer that hole for many's a season. Do you think the board made a calamitous decision in not building the ground big enough Oddball? And if so, what size do you think ours should be in a few years time?
Totally agree DT. Saw us at the Emirates this year, sitting with Gooner mates.even they were embarrassed by the lack of atmosphere, the little corner of Rs provided all the noise. But it wasn't much better at Highbury. Beautiful stadium, but not right for us - we must have first row of seat no further from the pitch than they are at LR.
Our capture area bigger than Brightons are you mental? The nearest club to Brighton going north is Crysal Palace they have a huge catchment area probably the biggest in the country
I think the 93 million was put up by one bloke in Brighton plus 6K to 22K is a leap think it has caught everyone out. I think we should aim for 35K and we grow a lot of new fans on the way until its built. I think we can start at doubling our current capacity and by god if the same infection takes place on the new stadium it will rock like the nu camp .. I am certain the owners will take us up a much larger route that any of us can predict. It has to be super tight like SB says plus i would look at the acoustics to prevent any noise coming from the away end ... I sometime sit in the away end at LR and It's not nice as an away supporter when we kick off ..My mate was at Liverpool and it went up one level then another and then another and he most around him where shocked and respectful of the noise we can make ... we need to make the Norwich fan's ears bleed next season
No not really. Couple of nice new stadiums but not big enough attendances means they are to small. Only the national arena, Ullevaal, if you saw Norway vs England, can be describes as close to what we could need. please log in to view this image And to some extent Rosenborg's Lerkendal Arena, but I'm not a fan of open corners as it drains the atmosphere imo. please log in to view this image How about this for a restricted view please log in to view this image
Loveitup No I'm not mental. We do have a bigger catchment area which is full of people. Around Brighton it is just green fields or open sea. Palace are not their nearest neighbours. You are forgetting Crawley and its not that far to Portsmouth and Soton
NorwayRanger knows the score. Round-topped (like the Galpharm) or round-cornered (like the majority of athletics or Olympic) stadia are unlikely to generate real atmosphere. In addition, look at boring, new-breed, imagination-devoid stadia like the Keepmoat, the King Power Stadium, the Emirates and St Marys, for instance. You want traditional stands with a roof that generates decent acoustics which has the fans in mind. A big 'spion kop' end like Fir Park in Motherwell is always a good idea too. The Germans seem to get these designs without much trouble, so why do the English always have to be so crushingly health-and-safety-minded whenever football fans come into play? New stadia should be designed with the fanatical fans at heart, not corporates. Chelsea's Battersea Park proposal looks absolutely mint. Good luck to QPR in your quest for a new site, Loftus Park never appealed much to me as an away trip anyway.
When are you boys gonna move outta that dump, Jerel? Its a good traditional old ground but talk about dilapidated. I think its gone past the point of rescue in terms of renovation. Maybe when PaPa Smurf sails down the river and you get a decent owner you will upscale? (P.S. Did you ask James the One if you could use his photo for your image?)
What was that picture someone put up of a black and white stadium a couple of months back? That was the kind of ground I would like. I think it was in Portugal or Spain. ( Probably got that wrong. ) It had really steep stands.
