I think Ched Evans needed a better advisor. After he had been found guilty he should have released a statement saying: I thought she had agreed, but I now realise that I may have been mistaken. In which case, I am very sorry. He wouldn't be admitting guilt (which he seems incapable of doing) but would present himself as a nicer person...which would make it easier for him to move on. It would also help stop his 'supporters' being so vile.

He's maintained his innocence all along. Why should he change now?

As I said, my statement doesn't admit guilt but acknowledges he may have been mistaken. He would never have served his full sentence whether he appealed or not and he could come out and restart his life. Personally I think he's a ghastly person who thinks he is right about everything, but with good advice he could have come out looking better than he probably is.

Least he could do is try and stop the idiots doing this. But guess not.

Indeed. OK, he believes himself to be innocent still. But there still ways that one can believe that but be remorseful for the situation that he and the woman found themselves in, and the consequences for the woman. That would go a little way to bridging the gap. Plus, he should make moves to stop this from happening, as you say, Beefy. But there is nothing. No generosity, no remorse. And this woman effectively has a long sentence over her head because she is more of a trapped prisoner within freedom than Evans.

And many women won't report rape because of this. She has a life sentence and (correct me if I'm wrong) I think it was the police who pressed ahead with the charge (as is their right).

I don't doubt you are correct, Fran.

The manager is obviously not keen, and sponsors are about to walk.

Phelan takes over temporarily at Norwich after Neil Adams leaves his post. Norwich have now said that Adams will take a break and may come back in some capacity....sounds like a personal issue.

Blackpool-Millwall or Blackburn-Wolves could be viable for me. What's the catch?
