From what i can tell, it's also not on this weekend, and nor is it being shown on Monday. So three rounds of FL action in a row not being shown.

Whatever we think of the PL, it's important to get there as it is hard to support a good side in the Championship. It's a case of sink or swim. A few years with just Championship income will leave us drifting in mid table forever.

Exactly right. Sooner we make the jump the better off we will be.

Also as a carefully run club, we may spend some money but not at the risk of our future.

It would not really surprise me, the number of viewers they get must be low compared to the large cost, particularly once the bigger Championship teams are out of the way and their fans turn off. How many of us watch the whole thing? To be honest I think it would be better if they only showed a few games from the day, seeing as all the FL highlights go on the BBC site anyway.

People might consider that the quality of TV output has dropped since the proliferation of digital channels and the advent of SKY, and it certainly has, but as soon as a BBC company gets its revenue from advertising, rather than from the licence payer, the quality level will drop through the floor. I watch something like 1% of the TV that I used to 10-15 years ago - my TV hasn't been turned on for a couple of weeks, for example - and I would almost certainly take it to the tip once the Beeb started advertising. There would be no point in keeping it. In truth, Tory governments have had their teeth into the BBC every time they have come to power. This is just another incidence.

BBC's contract with the Football League expires at the end of the season any way, and by all accounts they haven't entered into any talks about renewing it. So they may not need to bother actually axing it - even if they did so today, they'd only be saving themselves four months worth of programmes.

I was just thinking about this the other day (ads and the BBC). It wouldn't surprise me if ads became a part of the BBC's output in order to get some more revenue, as it appears that, year-on-year the licence fee does not cover their costs and they are having to make cutbacks. Like TheSecondStain, my tv is also likely to go if the BBC turns to advertising, that or it just gets switched on when I want to watch a DVD.

As for the FLS, I would be disappointed to see it go simply because it is better than nothing, even if it is relegated to a late-night graveyard slot. It's a shame that, in the eyes of a lot of the media including the BBC, there is no footballing life outside the PL and, when they do take some notice it is not much more than mere lip-service paid to it.

Wtf, The FLS covers many leagues where as PL covers one league. Why would there be so many less viewers for FLS? Only thing I can think of is it's on very late so many may have already gone to bed which probably significantly lowers the number of viewers.

I am starting to hate the PL more and more.

Frankly ridiculous that the Director General gets well over half a million a year and yet they talk about cutting programmes. Why don't they cut his salary a bit more first? 20% is hardly anything when he's still on over 600,000. Plus, I'm sure there's plenty of other higher-ups in the BBC who have equally as ridiculous salaries.

That's an odd kind of pay cut.

Well, let's put that into some sort of perspective. [by-the-way, it's £600,000 though I'm not defending it]. Let's assume he works a long 5 or 6 day week. He overlooks, and is in charge of the total BBC output, in all it's forms. He takes the can for everything and has to steer the BBC through troubled times and guide a vision for the BBC into the future. That's quite a responsibility for probably the most important, politically independent, broadcaster in the world. Performers who used to be on BBC One, like Jonathon Ross would earn something like £20M per annum for what... a shortish 3 day week..? That was for Film[Year], The Saturday Morning Radio Show, and his TV Chat Show. Only the radio show ran throughput the year, the rest was 6 months or less on, and the rest off. Who is the better value..?

They're both probably not great value for money, although performers such as Jonathon Ross would be less so. Plus, most of what he does and his responsibilities are probably delegated to the various departments of the BBC.

Not to mention the move to Salford, that seems like an incredibly pointless waste of money. Apparently it's not popular with the staff either. Caroline Cheese left as a result and I've heard Bill Turnbull and Sian Williams will be leaving BBC breakfast.

Nothing to do with the prem at all, it's down to when the bbc show it etc. I'm guessing they spend a fair wack on MOTD so by rights would show it at a decent time. The FLS is poor tbh even the studio looks like it's been brought in 2nd hand.

I'm exactly the same. I love the away days going up to places like Goodison and having the amazing atmosphere in a biggish ground. To me it just has that extra spice.

RANT 1 - BBC **** on ITV when bidding for TV rights for Football years ago, BBC had the lowest bid, ITV had the highest bid for Prem so the BBC offered SKY the money they put by for bidding so they could show the highlites, and SKY won.
BBC ****ed up what they had by moving it to stupid o`clock.

RANT 2 - Why put it on at stupid o`clock, most kids and some adults will be in tucked up in bed.

What would be wrong with showing regional games live, midweek games, ie BBC south showing Soton, Pompey, Bmouth, Bummers & Homos Albion, Reading, not everyone wants Soaps morning till night. would solve rant 2
And please bring back the live results the four English Leagues, two Jocks, one welsh league, would easily fit in a 30mins show with maybe a quote or 2 from televised games - how popular is Sky Sports News?

GRRRR its as if Football is a working mans sport and theres no place place left for him on the BBC.
