You lot never cease to amaze me with your pick up on all kinds of stuff. That for me is the potential of this board. Hugely entertaining.

The trick I think is to find a suitable QPR or football vehicle to carry it...

It's a real privilege, I'm very aware of being lucky in many ways.

My penance is supporting a football team that appears determined to ruin my mental health.

I'd describe Q.P.R. as an extreme rollercoaster ride - huge highs and huge lows with very little in between - a bit like the Citeh match at the end of last season. No one can ever say we are boring, unlike Stoke.

    Q.P.R. keep me sane!

Very good film the damned united regardless of what the clough family thought. Sheen is brilliant. Much better than the football factory which is by and large a bit pants albeit with some very realistic characters in it and well observed. It just doesn't quite hold together for 2 hrs or whatever it is. Some good footy scenes barely held together by a shaky plot.

The club and this board give my life some balance - when normal life is OK, the emotions pour into the club and the results effect every sinew of life.

When life is tough then it offers much needed respite.

I've been in a fairly dark place for the last month or so (not much chance of that changing in the near future) but it's meant I can throw positivity (on the whole) towards the Hoops and this board as a means of escapism (even with the woeful performances, I can still only afford a sulky hour or so).

This board offers similar respite (especially on the more diverse topics) with great thought, knowledge, insight and humour pervading almost every thread.

I will say that my posts have been consistently dreadful for a while now but I'm sure that'll pick up soon (and apologies if I've been a bit abrasive to anyone).

Cheers guys (wasn't fishing and do think it's true).

Back to the film thread (throwing a slight twist in it) - what are the best movies with a sporting theme/setting.

Personally, I love boxing films (Rockys included) and have to say that Raging Bull is probably the best IMO. Cinderella Man was good too (as was Ali). I'd really like to see the Hurricane too - anyone seen it? Heard of it through the Bob Dylan song and the story seems compelling and tragic.

Oh, I quite liked Seabiscuit as a period piece on racing and a fair few others now I think about it....

Stick with it Matt, you are one of the bright spots on the board.

Sporting films - I love Slapshot Paul Newmans ice hockey film and This Sporting Life, Richard Harris playing rugby league probably for the same reasons - gritty, realistic looks at the survival end of sport, no contrived happy endings or redemption. Snapshot also very funny.

SB..love slapshot too but unfortunately it ended my "roller hockey "career.Everyone we played against thought it was real and we got (rightly) banned from the league!! I guess thats the result of playing for an all black team (starlight) with a massive chip on our shoulders..I was the smallest in the team, but never shirked..Was a great time. Wish some of our playerrs would "man up"!
Most of my mates ended up playing Ice hockey at bracknell and one was thier keeper for a while, personally i was to scared to skate..bit strange from a ski instructor i know, just scared of loosing my fingers.

FYI..so impressed that a film glorifying football violence has turned into such a cultured debate. Says so much about the posters on this board and confirms why I'm glad to be part of it!

Now...3 points tomorow will be a weekend to remember

Don't want to detract or put our Mattie under the spotlight more than he'd be comfortable with but I agree with Stan, Swords and QLDR that Matt's contributions have always been a high spot on here. One of my personal faves for his balanced, honest to goodness, conscience driven takes on all things QPR and board. Hard to disagree with most of his stuff - and who'd want to anyway?!

It's worth adding that as mod I get the odd PM from posters (regular and otherwise) whose personal boats have hit dodgy waters for one reason or another - and sometimes for no apparent reason at all. That's life, I know, and happens to all of us one way or another, so it's great to have somewhere to escape to to read and/or chat about an area of life that is both vital and at the same time ridiculously unimportant!

Despite our loony club's precarious position, I think the board's got a lot better over the past couple of months. We've managed to take the sting out a bit but improve on the quality and integrity of posts and threads. Well played people, it's what many were asking for. Cheers. Lets keep it up if we can eh?!
