Love this film. Favourite line is when De Niro says to Grodin, “I’ve only two words to say to you: shut the **** up!”
I grew up watching all the classic gangster films from that era starring, Cagney, Bogart, Edward G and George Raft, as my dad loved them. They were all classics in my eyes, and still stand up today. Cagney was my favourite though, and Angels With Dirty Faces was my favourite along with Public Enemy. To think he was a properly trained dancer before acting gave him an extra string to his bow, as he showed later on in several films. He had everything you could ask for as actor, but the menace he exuded in those gangster films has rarely been matched by anyone since. In my eyes his versatility and mesmeric performances put him in the argument, of the greatest actor of all time !
