Ah ok he's not saying we're close to the limit is he? He says we have a limit, not that we're near it.

Unless we're signing Kevin de Bruyne I don't think we're going to be breaching 40m of losses signing a no. 10. That's also on the assumption we're dumping the entire transfer fees in the single financial period, which as I said earlier, would be shooting ourselves in the foot for essentially no reason.
Maybe it’s taken out of context in Acun’s explanation, they’ve clearly been very wary of it so I can’t imagine they’d have continued if they knew they were close? Makes me worry about Greaves though…

There is an FFP thread so don't want to expand on it too much here, but it's not even as simple as that (in the sense, we have a lot more headroom than that), so there must be some other limit we're close to which is why I was hoping he may have expanded on it.

20k a week is 1m a year. 13 m losses in 3 consecutive years puts us over.

Wage bill is the reason we're getting close.

Did he expand on what he meant? I can't imagine we've spent 30-40m.

Best start adding up those 20-30k pw. 2-3 year contracts. We've gone from 2 lowest budget and committing to top 10 for the next 3 years. All we need to do is raise the wage bill 13m (which isn't that much) and we're close to limit.

To be fair I think it’s video 4 he does say we are close to the limit.

We definitely could do with moving on a few soon. After watching the u21s last night Will Jarvis and Macca Snelgrove look capable of being options over the likes of James Scott and potentially Wilks. Whilst also earning probably 10% of what they do

We are signing Kevin De Bruyne and we don’t need a no. 10 now Lo-Tittilation has signed.

He did say 2/3 more players which is good enough as long as they are good quality and not absolute trasg

How, exactly? The fees for Tufan, Sinik and Allahyar can’t have been more than the £16 million we got for KLP, and I can’t imagine new player wages accounts for the rest of our FFP headroom.

Why wouldn't it? Wages are the bulk of a transfer outlay.

I am happy they are watching things carefully, the last thing we want is a Derby and the like situation. I still think Greaves will sign, but he is hanging out for the best deal possible. If you are signing a 3 or 4 year deal, you have to make sure that you are happy in year 4 with the level of remuneration as you are in year one.

Theres an ffp thread if you really want to discuss further but you can't just make statements like that which aren't true.

How is it 'not true'? Seri didn't cost a fee but is likely to be on 1.5m a year, for at least 3 years which is more than 10% of your 39m ceiling.

Acun has just come out to say average wage has gone from 6m to 20m a mid ranking championship wage bill is 20m+ and we're are going from 9-11m. Its easy to see how with a couple more quality additions we'll be close to limit.

Guess we're stuffed then. These new sponsorships not worth the paper they were signed on.

I'd say 7 figures over the next 3-4 years is significant, but it's not a huge windfall relative to what we're spending.

Acun has said on TS that he's expecting to lose 10-15m per year, so it seems he's spending to cap, and complaining about not being able to lose more.

Amazed some are looking for reasons to think we're suddenly losing stacks of money.

Realistically the only way to progress up this league is by developing players and selling players for significantly more than what we've paid.

You don't have to look far for evidence we are spending close to cap when the owner has just said on national radio he expects to lose 10-15m per year.

I think the main point he is obviously aware of if Simon Jordan's figures he mentions which I think he said we lost £10m last year & £15m the year before, if you are allowed to lose £39m over the 3 years, then £14m lost available this season.

I am not sure how it works, when the 3 years start, do they take it from the first year that this rule came into being, and then when one 3 year cycle finished you start again, or as a new owner does it start from zero?

We didn't lose 25m over the last two seasons.

Not long ago Wigan RLFC had a lot of high profile overseas players but stayed within wage restraints. They also had a lot of highly paid cleaners and cooks with the same surnames. Allegedly.

They signed one Aussie on £20k a year and paid his wife over £100k to work in the shop, which she did for a couple of hours a week. Other players had cleaning jobs or jobs for their wives. Was all a bit mental for a while.
